The Project’s new panellist Michael Hing left the audience in shock after he joked that he wished Prince Andrew was dead.
During Tuesday’s episode of the news program, the comedian and fellow panellist Kate Langbroek reflected on the major events over the past year, including the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.
“2022 was so depressing, obviously, the Queen died, but maybe next year will be better and Prince Andrew will die,” Hing said.

The offcolour joke caused a stir with the studio audience, with audible groans heard.
Reacting to the crowd’s response, Triple J Drive host Hing replied: “Come on! Are you defending Prince Andrew now?”
Meanwhile, his co-stars laughed at the remark.
“Is he your person of the year?” Langbroek asked, to which Hing replied, “No!”
One Twitter user slammed Hing’s comments.
“Calling for someone to die is totally inappropriate on any tv show no matter what you think Michael Hing #theprojecttv,” they tweeted.
Andrew was stripped of all his patronages and military titles after becoming embroiled in a civil lawsuit brought by Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre, who accused the Duke of York of sexually abusing her when she was 17.
The Prince settled the case with a huge payout speculated to be as much as $A26.5 million.
Andrew, who is eighth in line to the throne, was forced to step back from royal duties in late 2019, after a disastrous television interview in which he tried to defend his links to Epstein.
Public outrage at the time saw several charities and associations distance themselves from him.
He has vehemently denied Giuffre’s allegations.
