The Palace request Kate Middleton ignored on her wedding day
Kate Middleton was given one firm request from her new royal in-laws for her wedding to Prince William — but like most brides, she had her own ideas.
Before we’d ever even heard of Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton was the royal bride of the decade.

In 2011, she wed Prince William in a lavish affair at Westminster Abbey, looking as though she was born to be regal in a long-sleeved lace gown by Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton with a glittering tiara and veil over her loose brunette waves.
But years on from the big event, it’s emerged that one key element of her bridal style was in direct defiance of a Palace request.
In a new documentary about William and Kate’s wedding titled William & Kate: The Journey, reporter Ashley Pearson revealed that in the lead-up to the day, the Palace had “indicated very strongly” to Kate that they would “prefer her hair up”.
But like any bride, Kate had her own ideas.
“Kate had her heart set on wearing her hair down with long flowing curls, which is her favourite way to wear it — and actually William’s favourite as well,” Pearson explained.
The half-up, half-down style the Duchess of Cambridge eventually went for could possibly be taken as a very loose compromise. Either way, it looked stunning.
This new information may explain Meghan Markle’s chosen hairstyle at her wedding to Prince Harry in May. Many had expected the Duchess of Sussex to opt to wear her long hair out on the day, but she instead pinned it all back into a neat bun — suggesting she was possibly given the same Palace request as her sister-in-law.
