Royal wedding: Meghan Markle’s girl squad makes her big day

HER blood sister may have tried pouring poison on her happy day, but Meghan Markle’s besties made sure the new Duchess rose above.

The Royal Wedding

HER blood sister may have tried pouring poison on her happy day, but Meghan Markle’s girl squad made sure the new Duchess rose above her spiteful sibling and had the time of her life.

The Suits star chose not to have adult bridesmaids, so torn about singling out one over another but her power posse of friends stepped up in a show of the sisterhood that lived Meghan’s mantra: the future is female.

The girl gang — which included designer Misha Nonoo, stylist Jessica Mulroney, brand consultant Benita Litt, university pal Lindsay Jordan (nee Roth), pilates instructor Heather Dorak, Suits actress Abigail Spencer and others — rallied around the bride, spending her last night as a singleton at Cliveden House.

Fashion PR, long-time friend and the royal couple’s matchmaker Violet von Westenholtz was also on hand at St George’s Chapel, to watch on as her 36-year-old American friend melted hearts with her relaxed manner and effortless style.

Despite the acrimonious week leading into the nuptials, when the Markle clan did their best to embarrass the bride with their ugly accusations she was “cold” and “calculated,” her friends played cheerleader on social media — balancing the royal ledger.

Mulroney, whose twin sons Brian and John, and daughter Ivy were part of the bridal party, sat in the front row pew normally reserved for the chief bridesmaid — taking to Instagram to share her feelings after the wedding, writing “proud friend, proud mother.”

The daughter-in-law of former Canadian prime minister, Brian Mulroney, looked elegant in royal blue, guiding her flower girl daughter Ivy into the church; alongside duchess, Kate holding the hands of Princess Charlotte and family friend, Florence van Cutsem.

Her mother, Doria Ragland played the ultimate wing woman, chaperoning her daughter on the car ride from Cliveden — also standing up for her as a witness during the signing of the register.

Ms Ragland may have been the only member of Meghan’s blood family to get an invitation to the gala event; but her class and poise showed she was more than up to representing her side of the American clan.

Her female Suits co-stars also played a positive role in the wedding narrative, after keeping Meghan’s royal romance a secret for the five months before the union was made public.

Sarah Rafferty, who plays legal partner, Donna Poulson, turned up the Hollywood glam for her friend’s nuptials, stunning in navy satin Lanvin.

Actors Priyanka Chopra, Janina Gavankar and Brit reality star, Millie MacIntosh, all played their part in the pre-planning with MacIntosh doing double time with the royal couple expected to attend her own wedding to Hugh Taylor next month.

The girl squad’s loyalty was rewarded by the new Duchess of Sussex, who gifted them each with a Kensington bracelet — a bespoke chain with gold medallion feature, she commissioned especially as a thank you present and wedding keepsake.
