Royal wedding argument between neighbours leaves man in coma
WHAT started out as a request to watch Harry and Meghan’s wedding quickly turned into an argument that left one NSW man in a coma.
WHAT was meant to be a joyous day celebrating the royal wedding, soon gave way to an argument between two NSW neighbours that left one man in a coma.
Michael Gerrard Bresnan, 64, and his 44-year-old neighbour were having a few drinks at a Kooringal home, near Wagga Wagga, on Saturday evening when Mr Bresnan suggested they watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get hitched on the TV.
Well, it turned out Mr Bresnan’s neighbour was not much of a royal fan and allegedly didn’t take too kindly to the idea of spending his night watching the wedding.
“The victim expressed his disappointment in respect to the wishes of the accused. As a result, an argument ensued,” the police report stated.
The 44-year-old allegedly unplugged Mr Bresnan’s television and later smashed it into a small table.
The police report, tendered to Wagga Local Court, claims a fight erupted between the two men, with Mr Bresnan accused of striking the victim multiple times over the head with a pair of bike handles.
The attack occurred about 9pm, with a witness calling triple-0.
Paramedics had to revive the victim twice when they arrived after he went into cardiac arrest.
The 44-year-old man was taken to Wagga Base Hospital in a critical condition and was placed into an induced coma.
The victim is now reportedly in a stable condition.
Mr Bresnan was then arrested by police and faced Wagga Local Court on Monday where he was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and is expected to return before the court on July 18.
