Revealed: The sneaky royal hack for keeping a tiara in place
MOST brides are stressed out enough just worrying about keeping their hair and makeup looking perfect on the big day. But for Meghan, there was a whole other issue.
FOR regular brides, keeping your hair and makeup picture-perfect on your wedding day is hard enough.
But for Meghan Markle, she was also dealing with balancing a tiara on top of her elaborate chignon — with millions of people watching her every move.
It’s the same issue that faced Kate Middleton at her wedding to Prince William in 2011, and Richard Ward, who styled her hair that day, has revealed the sneaky hack for keeping it in place.
“A tiara like that is very difficult to fit,” he told People magazine.
“The difficulty with tiaras is that they do have a tendency to move around. There would have been a type of elastic band behind the bun at the back, but that won’t necessarily stop the tiara from moving.”
The solution? A needle and some clear thread.
“The way I would have done it is to do a tiny cornrow plait just behind the centre of that stone,” Ward explained. “With invisible thread, I would sew the front of the tiara into the tiny plait which anchors it, and it will not move.”
The new Duchess of Sussex was widely praised for her bridal hairdo — bar that annoying strand that came loose — and according to her stylist, it took less than an hour to create.
“We woke up early, had a little coffee and then just went on. It was all smiles, it was just one of those dreamy moments to be honest. She was very happy. It was a beautiful morning, just the perfect morning to get married,” Serge Normant said.
“We had to blow dry it from wet, I would say [it took] 45 minutes to an hour. Then they did the make-up and then you fiddle around with it a little bit. But it’s not that long.
“I always tend to try and go as fast as I can at these events. Nobody wants to sit around.”
