Reason Meghan Markle’s real name was left off royal wedding invitation

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding is fast approaching. But one important detail has curiously been omitted from the invitations.

Details about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding invitations released

INVITATIONS had been sent out for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding.

But keen-eyed fans have noticed that Markle’s real name was left off the elegant invites ... but could there be a reason for this?

The invitations read: “His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales KG KT requests the pleasure of the company of....... at the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales with Ms Meghan Markle”.

However, the full name of the Suits star, 36, is actually Rachel Meghan Markle, The Sun reports.

British etiquette expert Grant Harrold told Good Housekeeping: “Buckingham Palace does things by the book, so they will list your full name”.

“Even though it’s an official occasion, they’ve obviously decided that she’s known to as everybody as Meghan Markle and issued the invitations under that name.”

Although lots of Suits fans know Meghan for her role in the show as “Rachel”, not many people realise that this is her actual name in real life.

With 2,640 members of the public invited for the big day, it makes sense for Buckingham Palace to go by the name she is known as.

However, her real name was acknowledged by the Queen when it came to her giving her formal written consent for the marriage.

The letter read: “I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which Consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council”.

As Prince Henry and Rachel are their official names, they were used for this formal document.

In a nod to Meghan’s US heritage, the royal wedding invitations have been printed using ink from America on English card.

According to the Palace, the invites follow many years of royal tradition and have been made by fine printers and Royal favourites Barnard & Westwood, who have been making royal invitations since 1985.

Prince Harry and Meghan will marry on Saturday, May 19.

The wedding is taking place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, which is where Harry was christened when he was three months old.

Charles and Camilla had their televised blessing there in 2005 and it offers the couple a more low key venue than Westminster Abbey, where Kate Middleton and Prince William got married.
