How Prince Andrew’s scandal could wreck Beatrice’s wedding

There are growing concerns about Princess Beatrice’s upcoming wedding amid heavy backlash from her father Prince Andrew’s disastrous interview.

Three excruciating moments from Prince Andrew's interview

Prince Andrew’s explosive interview on his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein could wreck his daughter’s wedding next year.

After his chat with the BBC’s Emily Maitlis added more speculation to the scandal, it is feared Princess Beatrice’s ceremony could become “collateral damage”.

It comes amid news several of Prince Andrew’s financial backers are cutting ties with his business start-up charity project, Pitch@Palace, while many of his patronages are also under threat.

A royal expert, Marlene Koenig, said: “I will not be surprised if she has a rather quiet wedding, out of the public eye, with a few photos, no live coverage.”

Friends of the Duke of York revealed part of the motivation to speak on TV was to be able to walk his eldest daughter down the aisle with his “head held high”.

But as the fallout from the controversial interview continues, it could affect how public his daughter’s wedding is. Buckingham Palace have been approached for comment.

Andrew is believed to be unaware of the worldwide outrage sparked by the Newsnight episode, which aired in the UK on Saturday night.

Yesterday, a major sponsor abandoned his charity initiative – thought to be related to the scandal.

And while senior royals and the Queen are said to back him, Prince Charles is expected to be “bloody furious”.

In a public show of support, the monarch stood by her “favourite son” as they attended church on the Windsor estate on Sunday.

Andrew has strongly denied he had sex with 17-year-old Virginia Roberts in 2001 after going to Tramps nightclub in London, claiming he was at a Pizza Express with his daughter Beatrice.

WEDDING BELLS

Beatrice, 31, is due to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – no date has been set but the couple said it would take place next year.

She announced her engagement to the 36-year-old multi-millionaire property developer after a whirlwind 11-month romance.

According to a friend, the pair are looking for a “low-key” venue to host their wedding and have reportedly considered “a marquee in Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s back garden”.

Her sister’s wedding caused controversy when it was revealed it costs taxpayers £2 million ($A3.78 million).

Before her nuptials, furious British taxpayers signed a petition against public funds going towards it.

And in a dramatic break from royal tradition, Buckingham Palace confirmed Princess Beatrice’s wedding will be paid for privately.

According to reports, Beatrice and Edoardo aren’t looking to tie the knot at Windsor Castle – unlike sister Princess Eugenie, who married Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel last October.

The Mail reports one of Beatrice’s friends has said the couple want to “do things differently”, with the pair hoping for a smaller venue to keep things casual.

“The wedding will not be in Italy and from what they are saying it won’t be in St George’s Chapel, Windsor, either,” said the source.
