Royal expert hits out at Meghan’s ‘tone-deaf’ The Cut interview

A well-known royal correspondent has responded to Meghan’s bombshell interview with The Cut, blasting the former actress as “tone-deaf”.

Meghan Markle slams Brits: 'They call my kids the N-word'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have learned “no lessons,” a longtime royal reporter claims.

After The Cut published the Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell cover story on Monday, UK Daily Express royal correspondent Richard Palmer tweeted about some of the “jaw-dropping moments” in the interview, which he feels suggest that “tone-deaf Harry and Meghan have learnt no lessons”.

Perhaps the most “jaw-dropping” topic discussed by the former actress, 41, was the “structure” of how photos of her children were shared with the public, who she claimed used the opportunity to sling racial slurs, when she was an active member of the royal family, New York Post reports.

She said she was expected to give pictures of her now-three-year-old son, Archie, to the Royal Rota, the press pool that covers the Queen and her line of succession.

“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?” she said. “You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.”

The former Suits actress, who is also mum to one-year-old daughter Lilibet, previously addressed the racist media coverage that drove her and her husband away from the royal family and off social media in a polarising tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

The cyber-bullying was “almost unsurvivable,” Meghan explained at the time, revealing that it even led her to experience suicidal thoughts.

The Duchess also told Winfrey, 68, that there were “concerns and conversations” within the royal family about the colour of her son’s skin ahead of his arrival.

“I was a bit shocked,” Harry, 37, interjected at the time, noting that he was “never going to share” who made the comment about Archie’s complexion.

Since then the finger has pointed to several royals, including Harry’s father, Prince Charles, with a spokesperson for the Prince of Wales insisting to The Post that the speculation was “fiction and not worth further comment”.

Despite the denial, Meghan feels Harry “lost” his father following the pair’s January 2020 exit from the royal family, according to the new interview.

“Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process.’ It doesn’t have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that’s his decision,” she told The Cut when asked about her falling out with her own father, Thomas Markle.

As for the possibility of familial reconciliations, Meghan said: “I think forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy to not forgive. But it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I’ve really made an active effort, especially knowing that I can say anything.”

A source clarified to Page Six that Meghan actually meant to say she did not want Harry to lose his relationship with his dad — and not that it was already “lost”.

Meanwhile, one highly placed royal insider added: “I’m not aware that Harry has broken up with his father. Charles gave Harry and Meghan millions when they left the UK.”

During the couple’s joint interview with Winfrey, however, Harry claimed the royals “literally cut [him] off financially” after Megxit.

He added that Charles, 73, “stopped taking [his] calls” about leaving his role as a working member of the royal family.
