Resurfaced post from Meghan Markle’s lifestyle blog debunks big royal claim

One of Meghan Markle’s most-repeated claims has been called into question after one of the posts from her now-defunct blog was resurfaced.

A resurfaced post from Meghan Markle’s now-defunct lifestyle blog has cast doubt over her repeated claim that she knew “almost nothing” about Britain’s royal family prior to her relationship with Prince Harry.

The entry – published in 2014 on The Tig – was written while the former actress was appearing on TV series Suits.

“Little girls dream of being princesses,” Meghan begins. “I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power. For those of you unfamiliar with the ’80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength.

“We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here.”

She went on to reference Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding with a subtle swipe at the “endless conversation” around the woman who would become her sister-in-law.

“Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy,” she wrote. “Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

The resurfaced post – revealed via the Daily Mail – has certainly raised some eyebrows, given Meghan’s repeated assertion that she was completely out of the loop about the British monarchy prior to 2016, and had never so much as googled her future husband and his family.

In 2021, during the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, she reiterated the claim, insisting that she “didn’t do any research” into the royals before her 2018 wedding.

“I went into it naively because I didn’t grow up knowing much about the royal family. I didn’t fully understand what the job was,” Meghan told Winfrey.

“Thank God I didn’t know about the family, thank God I didn’t research – I would have been so in my head about it.”

Meghan had first made the claim that she “didn’t know a lot” about Harry during the couple’s engagement interview with the BBC, shortly after he proposed in 2017.

“It was really refreshing because, given that I didn’t know a lot about him, everything that I’ve learned about him, I learned through him,” she told interviewer Mishel Husain.

“As opposed to having grown up around different news stories, or tabloids, or whatever else, anything I learned about him and his family was what he would share with me.”

In 2018, her former best friend Ninaki Priddy – whose relationship with Meghan ended amid the breakdown of her first marriage with producer Trevor Engelson – revealed that she’d found the royal family “fascinating”.

“She had one of Princess Diana’s books [Diana: Her True Story] on her bookshelf, and even when she was with Trevor she told me she wanted to go and stay in London for at least a month,” Priddy told the Daily Mail.

“I can’t remember exactly when this was, but she was married to Trevor and starring in Suits. She mentioned about wanting to go to London a couple of times.”

Meghan first launched her lifestyle website in 2014 but shut it down three years later, in 2017, just before announcing her engagement to Prince Harry.

The pair married in 2018.
