Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall is pregnant with third child

The Queen’s granddaughter is officially welcoming baby number three, her husband Mike Tindall has announced.

Why insiders think the Queen will step down in 2021

Zara Tindall is pregnant with her third child.

Her husband Mike Tindall, 42, announced the good news on a podcast he hosts, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.

The Queen and Prince Philip are said to be “delighted” by their granddaughter Zara’s announcement.

Former England rugby star Mike said: “It’s been a good week for me, had a little scan last week. Third Tindall on its way.”

He revealed he wants a boy as he currently has two daughters with 39-year-old Zara, six-year-old Mia Grace and two-year-old Lena Elizabeth.

He said: “I’d like a boy this time, I’ve got two girls, I would like a boy.

“I’ll love it whether a boy or a girl, but please be a boy.”

The rugby ace also joked about naming the baby after COVID-19, adding: “We’re not sure what to do … Covi or Covina … I don’t know where to go with names.”

The couple have previously spoken about their torment at suffering two miscarriages.

Mike said: “Z is very good, always careful because of things that have happened in the past, and really looking forward to it.”

The baby is the second royal tot on the way with Zara’s cousin Princess Eugenie expecting her first child in the new year.

The Queen and Prince Philip currently have seven great-grandkids.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh are aware and delighted.”

Zara – the daughter of Princess Anne – was pregnant with little Lena at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

She was captured turning to her husband during the ceremony and telling him she was desperate for the bathroom.

Zara was praised for speaking about her miscarriage agony before having her second child.

She said for a time “you don’t talk about it because it’s too raw”.

The mum added: “But as with everything, time’s a great healer.

Zara and Mike lost a baby in December 2016 after announcing the pregnancy a month before.

She later suffered another miscarriage before her daughter Lena was born in June 2018.

“I had to go through having the baby because it was so far along. I then had another miscarriage really early on,” she said in an interview in The Sunday Times.

Zara and Mike met during England’s Rugby World Cup-winning campaign in Australia in 2003.

In 2010, they announced their engagement and married on July 30, 2011.

As required by the Royal Marriages Act 1772 – which has since been repealed – the Queen gave her consent to their marriage in a meeting of the Privy Council in May 2011.

Their first child, daughter Mia, was born in January 2014 followed by Lena in June 2018.

The couple, who live in Gloucestershire, are famously down-to-earth.

Zara and Mike regularly shun royal events and the family have no title.

Her mum Princess Anne decided she didn’t want her children to be known as ‘princess’, with Zara adopting the same stance for her own kids.

She has previously said she feels “lucky” as she had a more normal upbringing because of it.
