Queen to return to work ‘just four days’ after Prince Philip’s funeral
She’s famous for putting duty above all else so it’s not surprising the Queen is planning a return to work just four days after Philip’s funeral.
The Queen will return to work just four days after Prince Philip’s funeral - the day after her 95th birthday.
She is currently in an eight-day period of mourning for her husband of 73 years which is due to end on the day after she turns 95.
The Iron Duke - who was married to the Queen for 73 years and described as her constant “strength and stay” - passed away peacefully last Friday morning at the age of 99.
His funeral will be held at St George‘s Chapel on Saturday - the same place where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married.
Now it is understood that Her Majesty will resume duties just four days later, on April 22, according to the Evening Standard.
And she is determined to get on with “as many royal duties as possible” in order to fill the “huge void” left by the death of Prince Philip.
Although she has carried out many solo events over the years, especially since the Duke‘s 2017 retirement, there is now a major effort among senior royals to ensure she has support in the coming months, the Mail reported.
Among those expected to be seen by her side as she ramps up her diary are the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Princess Anne.
It is not yet known how or if the Queen will celebrate her birthday on April 21.
Last year, the Queen beamed as she enjoyed a stripped-back and socially distant Trooping the Colour ceremony in honour of her birthday.
For the first time in 125 years, the ceremony took place at Windsor Castle where she had been shielding with Prince Philip.
More than 1,700 troops and 400 musicians traditionally perform at London’s Horse Guards Parade in front of huge crowds.
But last year, fewer than 100 Welsh Guards participated in a private parade.
Yesterday both Harry and Meghan released separate messages remembering their grandad after he passed away on Friday aged 99.
William vowed to focus on his duty and continue supporting the Queen - causing some to speculate if he was having a pop at Harry after he left the royal family for a life in the US with Meghan Markle.
William and Harry haven’t seen each other in other a year - with the latter recently claiming his older brother was “trapped” in the royal family in his chat with Oprah Winfrey.
Harry is currently quarantining at Frogmore Cottage - the marital home he shared with Meghan in Windsor - ahead of the funeral on Saturday.
Pregnant Meghan has remained in the US as she reportedly “didn‘t want to be the centre of attention”.
She has also chosen to stay in California with son Archie after being advised not to travel because of her pregnancy.
Harry‘s arrival in the UK came a day before he released a poignant message remembering his grandad as “master of the barbecue and legend of banter”.
He said Philip was “cheeky ‘til the end” and ”authentically himself” throughout his more than 70 years of service to the nation.
