Queen Mary forced to cancel multiple events over mystery illness
The Queen of Denmark has been forced to cancel a series of high profile events after being hit by a mystery illness.
The Royal Family of Denmark has announced that Queen Mary is suffering from a mystery illness and has been forced to cancel upcoming events.
The mother-of-four shared an image of a handmade get well card and flowers that she revealed had been sent to her by two girls, Alma and Ellen, whom she was due to meet at the Heart Association awards.
She was also forced to miss the opening of the National Knowledge Center for Early Intervention and Family Research at the University of Copenhagen and SDU.
“Thank you for your thoughtfulness,” she wrote on Instagram. What a lovely surprise to receive this bouquet and drawings, even though illness prevented me from participating in the Danish Heart Association’s event ‘Together for the Heart.’ I had been looking forward to presenting the Heart Award together with the heart children Alma and Ellen and to meeting some of the young people living with heart disease. Hopefully we can meet again.”
While the nature of Mary’s illness remains unclear, the Danish Royal House’s Communications Department said in a statement: “Her Majesty the Queen, like many others right now, has become ill, and therefore unfortunately cannot participate in the Heart Association’s award ceremony.”
Mary was last seen out and about last week when Prince Christian subtly unveiled his “new name” after fans spotted a surprising detail in a picture of the royal.
Fans of the royals spotted the Crown Prince’s military name, now known to be “Trekroner”, displayed on his uniform.
The meaning behind the name is “three crowns”.
Patrick Kjellerup, press officer at the Guard Hussar Regiment, told BT News: “Trekroner is a name that has been given to the Crown Prince by the Life Company. It is normal and an old hussar tradition that you are named after the city you come from.”
The Prince’s choice of name is different to his father’s, King Frederik, who went by “Crown Prince Frederik” on his military uniform.
Prince Christian has been serving in the military for the last few weeks, and the monarchy shared details of his experience in an Instagram post.
“For over a month, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince has been serving as a military officer at the Guards Regiment in Slagelse,” read the post. “The company’s families were today invited to a visiting day at the barracks, where the Royal Family got the opportunity to experience the Crown Prince in his new setting and meet the rest of his co-recruits at.”
