Queen invites Harry and Meghan to Jubilee, but roles are unclear

Prince Harry has been back twice in the space of a few months, but his wife Meghan may also go to the UK after the Queen invited the pair to her 2022 Jubilee.

Queen Elizabeth II extended an olive branch to grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, inviting the couple to join the royal family for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations next summer.

The duo, who stepped down as senior royals last year to live in the US, are expected to attend the Queen’s official birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, which is part of the four-day festivities to mark her 70 years on the throne, according to The Daily Mail.

However, it’s unclear if Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, will appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony beside the Queen and other senior royals for the traditional Royal Air Force flyover, the report said.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited and I’m sure the Queen is very much looking forward to seeing them there,” a royal source told the UK tabloid.

“The balcony moment will be decided much nearer the time but there’s a limit to how many family members should be on it, and I would have thought that working royals who contribute to the family would be higher on the list than the Sussexes,” the source said.

Prince Charles, who is known to want to slim down the monarchy when he becomes king, is thought to support a reduced presence on the balcony.

Harry most recently returned to England for his grandfather Prince Phillip’s funeral, and did not spend one-on-one time with his dad Charles, according to reports.

He is now back in the UK where he will join brother William to dedicate a statue of his mother Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday. Charles is expected to be at his Scottish estate during the ceremony.
