Princess Beatrice pregnant with her first child to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi

Buckingham Palace has announced that Princess Beatrice is expecting her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, are expecting their first child.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the news tonight, announcing: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

Beatrice, the older of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s two daughters, married Mr Mapelli Mozzi in a low-key ceremony last July at Windsor’s Royal Lodge.

The nuptials, which had been postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic, were attended by only a small handful of close family – including the Queen, Prince Philip, her sister Princess Eugenie and her parents.

Beatrice wore a vintage Norman Hartnell gown borrowed from her grandmother, as well as Queen Mary’s Fringe tiara – worn by the Queen at her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.

The couple’s first child will be 10th in line to the throne and the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild.

Beatrice began dating Mr Mapelli Mozzi – a multi-millionaire property developer who shares a son with his former fiance, Chinese-American architect Dara Huang – after her sister’s wedding, and the couple announced their engagement in September 2019.

“You will never be alone my love, my heart is your home. Hand in hand, today, tomorrow and forever,” Mr Mapelli Mozzi wrote in a touching post on Instagram at the time.

The pair said in a statement they were “both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together”.

“We share so many similar interests and values, and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness,” they said.

The news comes months after the birth of Eugenie’s first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, with husband Jack Brooksbank and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement they’re expecting their second child, a girl, in the coming months.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple said in a statement in February.

The announcement came exactly 37 years after Princess Diana announced she was pregnant with Prince Harry, on Valentine’s Day in 1984.
