William, Prince of Wales, has relayed a message from his wife Catherine as he re-emerged in public after dropping out of a major event earlier this week for a yet to be elaborated on “personal matter”.

There had been concerns the matter in question was the health of the Princess of Wales, but Kensington Palace had been quick to say she was “doing well”.

Mystery still surrounds what caused William to miss a memorial service for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece.

On Thursday, the prince visited the Western Marble Arch Synagogue in Central London.

There he met members of the Holocaust Educational Trust which advocates against hatred and anti-Semitism.

The royal visit had meant to happen on Holocaust Memorial Day which falls on 27 January each year.

But it had to be delayed when the Princess of Wales went to hospital for abdominal surgery, the fuller details of which have not been divulged.

William’s “personal matter” may have raised concerns the Wales’ were set to delay the event yet again.

William and Kate’s message

At the synagogue, William relayed a joint message from himself and his wife.

“Both Catherine and I are extremely concerned about the rise in anti-Semitism that you guys have talked about this morning and I’m just so sorry if any of you have had to experience that, it has no place,

“That’s why I’m here today to reassure you all that people do care and people do listen and we can’t let that go.”

Holocaust survivor Renee Salt, 94, told William anti-Semitism in the UK was now at the worst level she had experienced since World War II.

“I’m so sorry it’s got to this stage, it will get better,” he replied.

Thursday’s measured and managed London event was in stark contrast to Tuesday’s confused scenes when the prince ducked out of King Constantine’s memorial despite heads of state from around Europe and beyond in attendance.

It was held in Windsor Castle, so within walking distance of the Wales’ home of Adelaide Cottage.

King Charles, recovering from cancer treatment, left the castle before proceedings began then William left abruptly around 30 minutes before he was due to give a reading.

The strange turn of events unexpectedly left Queen Camilla to lead the royal party in mourning.

It’s rare for the royals to drop out of events at such short notice.

Such was the concern that Catherine, who has not been seen in public since Christmas Day, was the cause of the “personal matter,” that the Palace issued a statement saying: “The Princess of Wales continues to be doing well”.

It’s also possible that the Prince’s absence was due to a death in the wider royal family.

On the same day, Buckingham Palace announced that Thomas Kingston – husband of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor – had died aged just 45.

But, like the Princess’ health, the royal family has so far refused to go into any further details about Mr Kingston’s passing.

The princess is not due to resume any royal duties until after Easter following her surgery.
