Prince William is ‘prone to tantrums’, claims ex-Kensington Palace staffer
A former Kensington Palace staffer has spilled on what the heir to the throne is really like behind the scenes – and how Kate Middleton handles it.
A former royal staffer has lifted the lid on Prince William’s behaviour behind closed doors, alleging the future king is “prone to tantrums”.
The source, who previously worked at Kensington Palace, told royal author Tom Quinn that Kate, the Princess of Wales, 41, treats her husband the same way as she does their three kids – George, 9, Charlotte, 8, and Louis, 5 – as a result.
“Kate treats him [William] like the fourth child because he’s prone to tantrums,” the source told Quinn, according to the UK’s Express.
The Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family author added that William and Kate’s marriage isn’t perfect, and that – like most other couples – they do get into serious arguments.
“They have terrific rows. But, where some couples have a row and throw heavy vases at each other, William and Kate throw cushions at each other. It’s always kept under control,” Quinn alleged.
According to him, the popular royal couple firmly stick to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s famous mantra of “never complain, never explain”.
“Because William adopts the manners and ways of behaving of his grandmother, and Kate is very good at not complaining, both of them have stuck to the thing that made Queen Elizabeth II such a remarkable monarch,” Quinn wrote.
“They very rarely complain, and when they do, it’s always in measured terms.”
It comes just weeks after it was claimed that the heir to the throne can be “difficult” to work with due to his “short temper”.
In his new biography, Our King: Charles III: The Man And The Monarch Revealed, journalist and author Robert Jobson spoke to a senior royal household figure about the Prince of Wales’ personality behind the scenes.
“He can be difficult,” the palace insider said.
“He is a driven person and that can make him impatient,” the source continued about the 40-year-old prince.
The source went on to compare William to his father, King Charles, who they claimed has more patience.
“That can make William short-tempered when dealing with Charles,” they said. “The Boss [Charles] has a temper, too, but it does not go on and on. He can get frustrated and flare up and then, in an instant, it is forgotten about. With William, it is rarely forgotten.”
According to Jobson, Charles was even left “shocked” at times by both William and Prince Harry’s tempers.
“He knew that they were both strong-willed, stubborn even; conflict would be very difficult to manage and could have a detrimental impact on the monarchy itself,” he wrote.
“Sometimes the level of belligerence between his sons, and indeed towards him, has shocked Charles.”
