Prince Harry to publish memoir, promises ‘accurate and wholly truthful’ account of his life

Prince Harry has shocked the royal world with the news that he’s publishing a tell-all book, pointedly calling it as a “wholly truthful” account of his life.

Prince Harry has been secretly writing a tell-all book about his life, which he intends to publish next year.

In a statement overnight, Pengiun Random House said it was “honoured” to announce that it would be publishing the forthcoming memoir by the Duke of Sussex.

“In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses and life lessons that have helped shape him,” it said.

“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous and uplifting human story.”

The release date is “tentatively” scheduled for late 2022. The proceeds will be donated to charity.

The New York Post reports Harry has been working on the book for nearly a year with ghostwriter J.R. Moehringer, who previously helped tennis legend Andre Agassi and Nike co-founder Phil Knight with their own high profile memoirs.

It says the first draft is nearly finished, though the deadline for Harry to hand in a manuscript has been pushed back from August to October.

In a statement of his own, Harry said he was excited to share an account of his life that’s “accurate and wholly truthful”.

“I’m writing this not as the Prince I was born but as the man I have become,” he said.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

Markus Dohle, the CEO of Pengiun Random House, said the company was “thrilled” to be releasing the book.

“Prince Harry has harnessed his extraordinary life experience as a Prince, a soldier, and a knowledgeable advocate for social issues, establishing himself as a global leader recognised for his courage and openness,” said Mr Dohle.

“It is for that reason we’re excited to publish his honest and moving story.”

Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, previously told their side of the story regarding their move from the United Kingdom to the United States in an explosive TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The book will presumably give Harry a chance to go into more detail about the pressures of being a working a royal. The Duke could also divulge more information about his strained relationship with his father, Prince Charles, and brother, Prince William.

Harry briefly returned to the UK at the start of the month and appeared alongside William to unveil a statue of their mother Diana at Kensington Palace.

It was an emotional and rare show of unity from the pair, who commissioned the statue back in 2017.

“Today, on what would have been our mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character - qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” they said in a joint statement at the time.

“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”
