Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been spotted letting loose in the VIP box at a hockey game amid a flurry of headlines about their renewed contact with King Charles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared carefree as they watched the Vancouver Canucks take on the San Jose Sharks in Vancouver on Monday night, with Harry even taking part in the ceremonial pre-game puck drop.

His grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, took part in the same custom involving the two teams back in 2002 during her 11-day Canada tour.

The royal couple’s appearance was part of the celebrations ahead of the duke’s Invictus Games coming to Vancouver and Whistler in 2025.

The country holds a special place in their hearts, as it’s where they spent their first holiday season with firstborn child Archie in late 2019 while they pondered their future in the monarchy – and where they bunkered down just weeks later after deciding to quit royal duties.

Meghan also spent years living in Toronto while filming hit show Suits, and made her public debut with then-boyfriend Harry at the 2017 Invictus Games in the city.

Harry and Meghan’s appearance comes amid reports they’re hoping to spend Christmas with the royal family following their icebreaking phone call with the King last week.

A friend of the US-based couple told The Sunday Times over the weekend that after the “friendly” chat between the trio last week in honour of Charles’ 75th birthday, they “would love to” celebrate the festive holiday back in the UK.

However, they reportedly “haven’t been invited” by the monarch.

If they did arrange to spend Christmas together, it would be the King’s first with his grandchildren, Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2.

“I can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty,” the insider told the publication.

“As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays.”

Despite visiting Britain several times this year, the King’s younger son has not seen his father since their brief encounter during the coronation in early May – and they have not spoken face-to-face since the late Queen’s funeral last September.
