Prince Harry admits moving back to the UK as a working royal would be ‘unsurvivable’ for his family

The Duke of Sussex said theoretically he was not against moving back to Britain one day with his family, but the reality was that it would be “unsurvivable”.

Prince Harry does not see how he and Meghan Markle can ever return to the UK as working royals.

The Duke of Sussex said theoretically he was not against moving back to Britain one day with his family, but the reality was that it would be “unsurvivable”.

Harry and Meghan fled the UK for North America with their son Archie in 2020, with the couple saying they felt their lives were under threat in the UK.

He told Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan that he did not see how his family - which now includes daughter Lilibet - would ever be able to return full-time.

“Even if there was an agreement or an arrangement with me and my family, there is a third party that is going to do everything they can to make sure that isn’t impossible. Not stopping us from necessarily going back, but making it unsurvivable,” he said, in an apparent reference to the British press.

‘That’s really sad because that is essentially breaking the relationship between us [the Sussexes and the Royal Family].

“If there was something in the future where we can continue to support the Commonwealth, then that’s of course on the table, but there's so much more that needs to happen between now and then, and so much that can happen,” he added.

Harry added that he and Meghan did not want to relinquish their senior royal roles but had been backed into a corner by The Firm’s inflexibility to let them live overseas and pay their own way.

“We were based in Windsor. That was where we genuinely thought we were going to spend the rest of our lives,” he said.

“We were trying to find a different way to work, but for one reason or another, despite the fact that it already exists within the family, we weren’t allowed to do things slightly differently.”

Harry added that he hopes to one day be “joined at the hip" with William again.

But he admitted that “without question” he was partly to blame for the rift between him and his brother.

However, he added that “what people don’t know is the efforts that I’ve gone to to resolve this privately, both with my brother and with my father”.
