Ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday tomorrow, Britain’s Royal Mail has released this new image showing the reigning monarch with the three heirs to the throne — Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George.
The image will be used on a sheet of four commemorative First Class stamps.
Because of the design of the image — each face had to fit within a perforated head shot — the toddler had to stand alone, rather than sit in someone’s lap.
In order to get around the logistics of George’s measurable height difference, Royal Mail photographer Ranald Mackechnie got the adorable two-year-old to stand on a stack of foam blocks.
The setting for the photograph was the ornate White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace.
All four members of the royal family were dressed in various shades of blue.
Ever the king of children’s fashion, Prince George wore the same Rachel Riley shirt and navy corduroy pants wore for his first official photograph with Princess Charlotte.
