PRINCE George has enjoyed his first day of preschool after being dropped off by his proud parents William and Kate.

The toddler prince started at the Westacre Montessori School in a tiny village outside King’s Lynn in Norfolk on Wednesday.

Beaming Kate, 33, took the charming pictures of George’s first day. The two-year-old wore a blue quilted jacket with a brown velvet collar and a backpack.

After the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had “settled him” at around 10am, they left. They picked him up a few hours later, telling friends George’s first day “had gone very well”.

The school, which employs five members of staff, looks after around 20 children at a time. It is housed in a converted chapel at the end of a private drive.

And the nursery costs just £5.50 ($11.25) an hour or £33 ($68) a day — a far cry from preschools around Kensington Palace which can cost upwards of £18,000 a year.

Mother-of-three Rae Chesney-Beales, 54, a nurse from East Walton whose three sons went there, said: “It is a fantastic little school. It is very easy going and it teaches children independence and manners. It’s an open school and anyone can go there.

“The children choose the things they want to do and they learn through play. They have special bricks and other equipment to use.”

She continued: “The children go out and about down the lanes in groups while holding on to a rope so that they all stay together. It is just a very sweet and friendly nursery. It has a very calm atmosphere compared to other nurseries I have visited.”

Kate and William want their children to have as normal an upbringing as possible.

William went to Jane Mynors nursery school aged three, where he had a Montessori education, while Kate went to a local preschool in Bradfield Southend, Berkshire, where her family lived at the time.

Princess Diana worked as an assistant at a Montessori nursery before her wedding to Prince Charles.
