Prince Charles tell-all biography, along with Princess Di letters, reveal troubled relationship

PERSONAL letters and a tell-all book are set to reveal explosive accusations surrounding the late Princess’ behaviour towards Prince Charles.

PRINCE Charles “lacked the knowledge or temperament to genuinely help Princess Diana” and attempted to find her support, but ultimately failed, according to royal insiders.

Previously unseen personal letters reveal an “intimate glimpse into the marriage” between Princess Diana and Prince Charles while a new separate tell-all book publishes explosive accusations surrounding the late Princess’ behaviour.

The book claims Prince Charles cried the night before his wedding and the couple stopped having sex just three years after their marriage in 1984 and slept separate bedrooms.

By 1996, Diana was embroiled in an affair with her riding instructor, Captain James Hewitt, and Charles was continuing his ongoing affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

Princess Diana was so unhappy she had resorted to throwing herself down the stairs while she was three-months pregnant, and slashing her wrists with shards of glass.

“How could I have got it all so wrong?” the Prince allegedly wrote to a friend, according to the book, the Daily Mail reported.

The musings of the “People’s Princess” to personal secretary Jane Parsons also painted a less-than-ideal picture. Diana’s letter to Parsons from the Royal Yacht Britannia on her honeymoon on August 15, 1981 will be sold at auction in April, reports Vanity Fair.

“The honeymoon was a perfect opportunity to catch up on sleep….”, she wrote.

Yet after the honeymoon, Diana told reporters the honeymoon was “fabulous” and she “highly recommended” it. “It’s a marvellous life,” she said at the time.

Sally Bedell Smith’s explosive tell-all, Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, reveals life was anything but rosy at the time.

One family friend has revealed “Charles wasn’t in love, he wasn’t ready …. psychologically he assumed his father bullied him”, according to the Daily Mail.

The book also alleges Princess Diana would taunt Prince Charles with the line that he “would never be King”.

She would “hit Charles over the head” when he prayed at night.

Prince Charles “dealt with Diana’s bewildering and often infuriating behaviour by placating her, trying to distract her and, ultimately, out of frustration, abandoning her”.

The book reveals Charles never wanted to marry Diana and wanted to replace her with Camilla Parker Bowles, but pressure from inside royal circles kept Charles and Camilla apart.

According to the book, Prince Philip said: “Charles should either propose to her or release her. In either event, he should make a decision shortly”.

Smith writes: “In 1980 — more than a decade after the sexual revolution had started — he was hemmed in by the royal custom of marrying a virgin, or at least a woman who seemed virginal.

“He was forced, in effect, to rob the cradle …. the 12-year gap between Charles and Diana was essentially unbridgeable.

“They had no intellectual connections, few mutual friends, no interests in common and none of the shared life experiences he would have had with a contemporary.

“Although Camilla had the same limited upper-class education, she was on Charles’ wavelength — absorbed as he was by hunting and other country pursuits, at home in the same social circle — in a way Diana could never be”.

The auction house is yet to reveal the full details of what’s inside Princess Di’s 25 letters, but are said to include details regarding the early years of her marriage and her 21st birthday.

In another, after Princess Di returned from a trip to Australia, she lamented the amount of travel the job required of her after having just given birth to Prince William.

“William recognised us instantly, which was a relief as sometimes children resent their parents leaving them! It’s marvellous to be home again and hopefully we won’t have to do any more travelling this year ... Wishful thinking!”

The royal couple married in 1981 in a ceremony dubbed “the wedding of the century”. It was watched by 750 million people around the world.

They announced their separation in 1992 but announced their divorce four years later in 1996. One year later, Princess Diana would die in a high-speed car crash in Paris with her lover Dodi Fayed. This year marks the 20th anniversary of her death.
