Prince Andrew ‘not surprised’ by accuser Virginia Giuffre’s claims she had just ‘days to live’
People close to the Duke of York say he is not surprised that his accuser Virginia Giuffre, shared a social media post claiming to have “just days to live”.
People close to Prince Andrew have revealed he is “unsurprised” by the social media post shared by his accuser Virginia Giuffre earlier this week.
Giuffre captured global attention when she shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed, her face bruised, and said she had just “four days to live.”
The West Australian resident, who was allegedly trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was a teenager, said she had been involved in a car accident with a school bus and had “gone into kidney renal failure”.
An unnamed friend of the Duke of York told The Daily Beast: “There is no sense of satisfaction on the duke’s part at Giuffre’s disgrace.
“If anything it has brought back the sadness the entire family feel that this woman, who he always maintained was a fantasist, was allowed to ruin his life.
“The whole family are completely unsurprised that her alarmist post turned out to be a fabrication.”
Media attention around Giuffre’s post highlighted incongruences with her statement that alleged she was left fighting for life after a bus driver ploughed into a vehicle she was a passenger in, while local police said they only had a record of a “minor” crash and were unaware of any injuries.
The conflicting reports were addressed by a spokesperson for Giuffre on Wednesday who said she thought she was sharing the post on a private Facebook account.
They went on to clarify: “Today she remains in serious condition while receiving medical care. On March 24, in rural Western Australia, a school bus hit the car in which she was riding.
“The police were called but said that there was no one available to come to the scene.
“They asked if anyone was injured and suggested that if they were, they should make their way to the hospital. The school bus driver had a bus full of distraught children and left the scene to get them back, saying he would file a police report, which he did later.
“Virginia was banged up and bruised and returned home. Virginia’s condition worsened and she was admitted to the hospital.”
WA Police confirmed to news.com.au they had one recent record of a “minor” bus and car collision with “no reported injuries” in the state, which occurred in Neergabby, 20km north of Perth, on March 24 just after 3pm.
“The collision was reported by the bus driver the following day. The car sustained approximately $2000 worth of damage,” a spokesperson said.
The school bus driver involved in the crash has also spoken, claiming he was overtaking a slow moving car when it suddenly turned right.
“It’s just all blown out of proportion and I know what happened,” he told the Daily Mail.
“The driver basically pulled out in front of me. I made sure she was alright, and I went and did a police report. She was elderly and I asked if she was OK, and she said, ‘Yes I’m OK’.
“I asked if she lived (at the property the car had turned into) and she said, ‘No, I’m a carer’, and I told her she needs to put her indicator on when you have to turn.
“That’s all the conversation was, and she asked how the kids (on the bus) were and I said, ‘fine’. It wasn’t a major crash.”
He said he later phoned the driver, a woman in her 70s, who informed him that the passenger in her car had suffered “a black eye”.
It was reported that Giuffre had presented to hospital on the Monday of the crash and that doctors had undertaken tests which discovered a kidney issue. She was discharged the following day but presented to a different Perth hospital seeking treatment for pain a week later, the day she shared her social media post.
It has also been revealed that Giuffre appeared in court for allegedly breaching a family violence restraining order just days before her social media post.
The alleged breach happened in early February and Giuffre’s first appearance at the Magistrates Court in Joondalup, WA, was on March 14.
No plea was entered at the hearing and the matter is next listed for April 9.
It comes four years after Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Prince Andrew, accusing the royal of sexually abusing her when she was 17.
She had made accusations of being sex trafficked by Epstein and his co-accused, Ghislaine Maxwell, before ultimately filing the papers in federal court in New York in August 2021.
The Duke of York has repeatedly denied all allegations.
Just weeks before Andrew was scheduled to sit for a deposition with Giuffre’s lawyers, the lawsuit was privately settled in February 2022, sparing the prince from a public court battle.
While the sum of money is yet to be disclosed, it was speculated to have been upwards of £14 million (A$26.5 million, not adjusted for inflation).
