Prince Andrew and Fergie to ‘remarry’ claims disgraced royal’s close pal
Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Fergie, are set to reunite according to an insider close to the pair.
A staggering claim has been made about what Sarah Ferguson’s recent return to the royal spotlight means for the future.
The Duchess of York, affectionately known as Fergie, 64, surprised onlookers over Christmas when she joined Prince Andrew, their daughters Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie, and other relatives including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton for the annual Christmas service walk to St Mary Magdelene Church.
Some insiders close to the royals have revealed their belief that her dramatic public rehabilitation this Christmas could be a surprise prelude to her remarrying Prince Andrew.
The pair officially divorced in 1996 but have remained close friends and even live together in the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
According to a close pal of Andrew’s, the notion of the disgraced royal reuniting with his ex-wife feels “inevitable”.
The pal told The Daily Beast: “It seems inevitable now that they will just formalise it within a few years and remarry. They live in the same house, they spend all their time together, they adore the children, they don’t ever argue.”
It echoes reports, both from insiders as well as hints from Fergie herself, that the pair never really wanted to divorce in the first place.
She previously said that they only made things official so she could “go off and get a job,” while Fergie’s father once reportedly said: “Those two never wanted to get divorced. It wasn’t them. It was that family.”
Fergie has always remained loyal to Andrew, and has made her feelings very clear a number of times over the years, including very recently.
In her 2011 autobiography, Finding Sarah, she wrote: “I love Andrew to this day, as I did when I met and married him, and I would never, ever, sell him out or betray him,” and earlier this year she shared on podcast Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah that marrying her “handsome prince” was the “best day of her life”.
Meanwhile, Fergie’s surprise return to the fold during Christmas Day celebrations marked the first time she had been included since 1992, around the time her split from Prince Andrew was announced.
It’s believed that it’s King Charles who was behind the royal’s surprise return.
“Sarah has always been close to the king and is fond of him, and she has increasingly grown closer to the queen,” an insider told Page Six. “She’s always been loyal to the family and has really not put a foot wrong in recent years. She’s never said a critical word and is always extremely loyal to the institution.”
Despite some insiders being convinced Fergie’s return to the fold could be permanent, others have dismissed claims that it could lead to the former couple remarrying.
“I think this was just good news management. It was a very good story,” Andrew Lownie, who is publishing a biography of Andrew next year, told The Daily Beast. “It’s one big, happy family, and they’re now pushing that line of the one big happy family, which has been the trope since George V.
“This is a way of showing a little bit of Christian forgiveness and building bridges within the family. It costs absolutely nothing. No one has really criticised it. Adding that it was less about the couple and more about keeping up appearances as a while, he added: “It was a win-win situation for everyone.”
