NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet cancelled plans to meet Prince Charles before he became King

New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet cancelled plans to meet Charles just a month before he became King.
The NSW leader was planning to meet the then-heir to the throne as part of a round-the-world trade trip at the end of July.
Mr Perrottet decided against travelling to the UK to meet the then-Prince of Wales because it would have come at the end of a gruelling tour of Japan, South Korea and India, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The pair are believed to have been due to discuss a development of sustainable homes being built in Sydney, as well as the rebuild of Lismore, in collaboration with the King’s charity, the Prince’s Trust.
“Time constraints meant I didn’t travel to the UK and meet with the then Prince but I’m pleased we will continue our work with the Trust as we build more social housing homes in Sydney and help the vital rebuild in Lismore,” Mr Perrottet told the Daily Telegraph.
There were suggestions Charles could visit Australia in 2024, however that may now happen sooner.
The new King of Australia, or his immediate family, are likely to come Down Under to shore up support in the wake of the Queen’s death.
William and Kate could deputise for Charles and Camilla, if it is deemed too far for the King to travel.
They last visited Australia in 2014, with Prince George who was nine months old at the time.
A later scheduled visit in 2020 was cancelled because of the Covid pandemic. The royal couple had planned to visit communities affected by that summer’s horror bushfires.
