A new book has seemingly confirmed long-standing reports that the late Queen Elizabeth was not a fan of Donald Trump.

In author Craig Brown’s new biography, A Voyage Around The Queen, it is claimed that the British monarch found the American to be “very rude” while hosting him on his two visits to the UK in 2018 and 2019.

According to the MailOnline, the Queen “particularly disliked” the way Mr Trump – who was the US president at the time – kept looking over her shoulder during their conversations as if to see if there was anything more “interesting” to tend to.

“Over the course of her reign, Her Majesty entertained many controversial foreign leaders, including Bashar al-Assad, Robert Mugabe, Idi Amin, Donald Trump, Emperor Hirohito and Vladimir Putin,” Brown writes, as per the outlet.

“She may not have found their company convivial; upon their departure, she may even have voiced a discreet word of disapproval.”

The author writes that the Queen reportedly expressed her concerns about Mr Trump’s behaviour at a lunch “weeks after” one of his visits.

“A few weeks after President Trump’s visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him ‘very rude,’” Brown writes.

“She particularly disliked the way he couldn’t stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting.”

When Mr Trump first visited the Queen at Windsor Castle in 2018, the first full year of his presidency, he broke royal protocol by walking in front of the monarch as they inspected the Guard of Honour at the famed Quadrangle.

Then, during an official, three-day state visit the following year, Mr Trump once again broke royal rules by putting his hand on the Queen’s back as she stood for the national anthem before later clinking glasses with her during a toast at a banquet dinner in Buckingham Palace.

On both occasions, Mr Trump was accompanied by his wife Melania, and it was believed Queen Elizabeth had questioned the state of their union.

According to Brown, the Queen wondered if Mr Trump’s marriage with the former model was an “arrangement”. The couple were married in 2005 on the tycoon’s expansive Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, seven years after first meeting at a party in 1998.

“[She] believed President Trump ‘must have some sort of arrangement’ with his wife Melania, or else why would she have remained married to him?” Brown writes in the book.

Despite the Queen’s apparent thoughts on Mr Trump, he believed the visits to be a success, later boasting about his “great relationship with the Queen”.

“We were laughing and having fun. And her people said she hasn’t had so much fun in 25 years,” Mr Trump told Fox News. “Then I got criticised for it because they said we were having too much fun… I feel I know her so well and she certainly knows me very well right now, but we have a very good relationship with the United Kingdom.”

However, following his second UK visit, some royal watchers were convinced Queen Elizabeth was trolling Mr Trump through her choice of accessories.

Not only did she wear a Burmese Ruby Tiara, which Burmese people believe to guard “the wearer not only against illness but also against evil”, but she also wore a pin former US president Barack Obama had given her as a gift.

“I actually think she wore [the tiara] because her dress is white, her sash is blue, and the rubies in the tiara complete the red, white and blue of the American flag,” British author Jessica Morgan told Vogue at the time.

“[But] wearing the pin Obama gave her on the day Trump arrived in the UK the last time they visited felt more pointed.”
