Mourners’ brutal reaction to meeting Meghan caught on camera

Seems some mourners at Windsor Castle were less-than-thrilled to meet Meghan – and the whole awkward spectacle played out on camera.

Mourner snubs Meghan at Windsor Castle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were always going to have something of a bumpy ride, re-entering the royal fold as they joined the rest of the family to publicly mourn the passing of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

And it appears at least one of the royal fans who lined Windsor Castle today couldn’t hide her feelings about them, as her brutal reaction to coming face-to-face with Meghan Markle was caught on camera.

In a show of unity few saw coming, Meghan and Harry had put their differences aside and joined with Prince William and wife Kate to meet mourners outside of Windsor Castle.

It was a surprising return to royal duties for Meghan and Harry, who famously quit the royal family more than two years ago, fleeing to America for a brand new life - and a series of tell-all interviews in which they publicly called out “the firm,” claiming they were offered little support and even faced racism from within the royal family.

Is that all now water under the bridge, as the family comes together to mourn the Queen? Maybe so, but it seems some Monarchists hold more of a grudge.

As the Duchess of Sussex made her way along the throngs of mourners, shaking each outstretched hand, one woman could be seen dropping her head, avoiding Meghan’s gaze.

After Meghan had passed, the woman then looked up at the person next to her with a smirk, shaking her head and laughing.

Others around her appeared to give the Duchess the cold shoulder, not reaching their hands out for a greeting. Another woman could be seen putting her sunglasses on as she came face-to-face with Meghan.

“Lady in the blue having none of it,” a viral tweet proclaimed, with vision of the awkward moment hastily recorded off a TV screen.

As the footage spread, debate raged.

“Who is this woman? I wanna buy her a pint,” tweeted one person.

“This is so brilliantly British. I want to give a big hug to those ladies who were no eye contact, no warmth towards her, nothing. Blank and move on!!! Well done,” said another.

Others were less impressed.

“It is funny, the same people who complain about people disrespecting the Queen, are loving the disrespect shown here,” one person tweeted.

“People refusing to shake her hand are so pathetic,” said another.

With the eyes of the world on the royal family, it was one of a few awkward, unscripted moments taking off on social media this weekend. Another came from the new King, Charles III, who was caught on camera venting his frustrations that his table had not been adequately cleared as he took his seat to sign the oath for his accession ceremony.

Meanwhile, official details of the Queen’s funeral have been released by Buckingham Palace overnight, with the ceremony set to take place at 11am on Monday September 19 (that’s 8pm on the same day here in Australian, AEST time).

Here in Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed Australians will be given a day off to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

A National Day of Mourning for the late monarch has been declared for September 22, the Thursday after the PM returns from the Queen’s funeral in London.
