Meghan Markle’s new solo Instagram account revealed

She teased it a full year ago – and now the Duchess of Sussex’s new personal account has apparently been unveiled amid a big career relaunch.

Meghan Markle’s secret new solo Instagram account has reportedly been revealed amid swirling speculation she’s preparing for a major career relaunch.

Page Six reports an account with the handle @meghan was created just before the former actress launched her now-defunct Spotify podcast, Archetypes, in August last year.

As of Friday morning, it had amassed 21,000 followers – despite the Duchess of Sussex never having actually posted anything. The profile picture is a generic image of pink flowers.

“Meghan was set to go live on Insta, but changed her mind shortly before she launched her ‘Archetypes’ podcast, so it’s just sitting there now,” a source told Page Six, with another adding: “Meghan really did want to get back on Instagram.”

The unveiling of Meghan’s new chapter on social media would hardly come as a surprise: the former actress was a frequent Instagram user during her pre-Prince Harry life (with 3 million followers), and also ran lifestyle blog, The Tig.

She cancelled all her social media accounts before her royal wedding in 2018, instead absorbing into the joint @KensingtonRoyal account with Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.

The Sussexes then launched their own @sussexroyal account in April 2019 amid a growing rift between the couples – and hit 1 million followers in its first six hours of existence.

But the couple terminated it after leaving the royal family and moving overseas in March 2020.

Meghan teased a return to Instagram in an interview with The Cut mid-last year, asking the journalist: “Do you want to know a secret?” before revealing she was “getting back … on Instagram.”

She added that cancelling her personal accounts when she joined the royal family had been a “huge adjustment”.

“It was a big adjustment — a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to a different life,” she told The Cut.

Following the release of their Netflix series Harry & Meghan and Harry’s memoir Spare earlier this year, Meghan is reportedly looking to relaunch her career after signing with elite Hollywood agency WME.

She’s now looking at collaborations for a “string of commercial endorsements in fields meaningful to her, such as food, wellness, fashion and therapy”, according to the MailOnline.

It follows months of speculation about what might come next commercially for Meghan after a challenging few months for herself and Harry.

The pair are experiencing what one Sussex source described to People magazine this week as “growing pains” in their careers following their abrupt exit from the UK and royal duties.

The insiders – who claim to be close to Harry and Meghan – also lifted the lid on what really went wrong before the collapse of their multimillion-dollar Spotify deal earlier this year.

According to them, the couple was not set up for success after signing the eye-watering contract in late 2020 and had to deal with an overload of red tape in the months and years that followed.

“They were given no formal lay of the land to kick things off, so they were already on unsteady footing even before the ink was dry,” the insider told People magazine, adding they “have a lot of ideas and did pitch them,” but that “things moved very slowly on both ends.”

The Sussex’s deal with the audio streaming giant – estimated to be worth somewhere between $29 million and $37 million – was declared officially over in a joint statement between both parties in June.

Then came a bruising Wall Street Journal report, which branded Harry and Meghan’s Hollywood careers as “looking like a flop” and noting that they have “notched more cancellations and rejections than produced shows.”

The publication added that the Sussex’s “graveyard of video projects” is such that “Netflix is unlikely to renew the couple’s deal” which is set to run through until 2025.

While little has been officially announced regarding their next move, Harry and Meghan are confirmed to head to Europe next month for the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany.
