Meghan Markle wants to adopt rescue pooch for Archie to grow up with loyal pet pal

Meghan Markle wants to make another addition to her family — a rescue dog for her newborn son Archie.

Meghan Markle is planning to adopt a rescue dog for baby son Archie — so he knows the joy of growing up with a very special and loyal best friend.

She wants to tour rescue centres near her and Harry’s Windsor home to find a suitable pet.

“Meghan really wants a dog with whom Archie can associate his childhood,” a royal source told The Sun.

The plan emerged after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had Archie christened on Saturday.

There are already two dogs in Meghan and Harry’s household — a labrador they got in September and her rescue beagle Guy.

But Meghan wants Archie to have his own dog and reckons another rescue is much better than a puppy.

“Rescue dogs are a huge passion for her so the pull to adopt rather than buy a puppy is far stronger,” the royal source said.

“Meghan really wants a dog with whom Archie can associate his childhood. She hopes they strike up an incredible bond and Archie can make plenty of memories.”

Insiders say Meghan has been encouraged by mum Doria to expand the Sussex dog pack.

The Duchess plans to visit rescue centres near their Windsor home to choose a suitable hound.

Meghan is the patron of animal welfare charity Mayhew.

In January she was seen cuddling a jack russell called Minnie on a visit to Mayhew’s centre in Kensal Green, North West London.

Meghan, six months pregnant at the time, was asked if she was tempted to take Minnie home.

“We can’t take another dog before the baby. Our hands are full,” she said.

Meghan was heartbroken when she had to leave Bogard, her Labrador-German Shepherd cross rescue dog, in Toronto when she moved to the UK.

He was thought too old to travel.

The royals have a long history as dog lovers.

The Queen, 93, has had more than 30 corgis since she was 18.

Her last, Whisper, died aged 12 last year.

William and Kate have a cocker spaniel named Lupo — a wedding present from her brother James.

Camilla has two rescue Jack Russells named Bluebell and Beth.
