Meghan Markle has opened up about the “crushing guilt” she feels while being a mum in the public eye.

The Duchess of Sussex has today released the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast which features Sophie Trudeau, wife to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, The Sun reports.

The Duchess, 41, describes Sophie, 47, as a “dear friend” who she met seven years ago at Toronto fashion week at a time when she was starring in Suits.

Introducing the Canadian first lady, Meghan said: “She knows what it feels like to be a mum and a partner.

“And specifically a mum and a partner in the public eye, and also how crushing the guilt of expectations can become the guilt that we feel as mothers or as women, in general, is self-imposed.”

The Trudeaus have three children aged 15, 13 and eight.

The Duchess also opened up about being a mother-of-two to Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, and gave a rare insight into her “chaotic” day-to-day routine with husband Prince Harry.

“For me, it’s, you know, both [baby] monitors on, for the kids, to hear them, always up [in the morning] with Lily, get her downstairs, then a half-hour later Archie’s up.”

She said Harry helps get Archie downstairs, before she makes breakfast for all three of them.

“I make breakfast for all three of them. It’s very important to me. I love doing it,” she said. “To me, it just feels like the greatest way to start the morning.”

She said it’s then time to feed all three dogs, before getting set for the rest of the day.

“Then get Archie out the door for school, but it does, it feels like a whirlwind,” she added, saying Harry was a “great” help.

The Duchess sympathetically went on to say: “How someone does this without a partner to help them through?

“It is so much work to be a mum.”

Elsewhere, Meghan also dropped details about a “fun” day she spent by the pool recently with Sophie and all their children.

“We swam, we drank wine, we splashed in the water. Then threw some pool floats in,” Meghan said.

“By the way, the inflatable pizza slice proved to be a big hit, which I found online and I kid you not, the one without pepperoni was a few dollars less than the one with pepperoni. And yes, I’m still talking about the inflatable pizza float for the pool.

“We all got a good laugh out of that.”

She added: “But all that aside, this wasn’t our day of being the wives and mums all perfectly coiffed with updos and pearls and demure smiles.

“This was the other version of us. Both with wild, curly hair and swimsuits and loose linen and huge belly laughs. Big cuddles with our little ones and quiet whispers of girl talk on the terrace, giddy, like absolute schoolgirls. We were just having so much fun.”

In the new episode, Meghan also revealed how she found the UK citizenship test “so hard” and would ask Harry questions.

The Duchess also gave a sneak peek into her relationship with her mum, sharing a FaceTime call and secret code they have.

One of Meghan’s last podcasts saw her slammed by a number of celebrities after she reflected on her time on the show Deal Or No Deal, saying that she was made to feel like a pretty thing rather than a person.
