Meghan Markle appears to take subtle dig at royal life in new Netflix series

The former working royal appeared to take a subtle jab at her previous life in her long-awaited new Netflix series.

'With Love, Meghan' series premiere on Netflix

IN LONDON

Meghan Markle’s long-awaited new Netflix series has finally premiered, after a six-week delay due to the LA wildfires.

The Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, features her entertaining famous friends at a lavish rented home in Montecito (famously, not her and Prince Harry’s) and showing them how to “elevate” their everyday hosting skills.

However, many viewers were quick to notice what appeared to be a subtle dig at the royal family at the very end of the eight episodes, during which she admits that her “new chapter” was “part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much”.

It unfolded during the final moments of the series, while Meghan was hosting a small party with guests including her mother, Doria Ragland, and her husband, Prince Harry.

“I just want to raise a glass to you guys. This feels like a new chapter that I’m so excited that I’m able to share and I’ve been able to learn from all of you. So I just thank you for all the love and support,” she said.

“And here we go, there’s a business! All of that is part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much, so thank you for loving me so much and celebrating with me.”

Elsewhere, Meghan also spoke about “healing” something “broken” while chatting with her neighbour, Vicky Tsai, about the art of repairing broken pottery.

“You gave me this idea, I think it’s so meaningful, that if you break something that is precious and valuable, it’s not broken,” she said.

“That that fracture, and you taught me this, that that fracture actually makes it more beautiful, that break makes it more beautiful.

“And I just think that it felt really symbolic of saying to anyone if you’ve been through something, you’re not broken. It can be fixed, it can be sealed and healed at the same time.”

During episode two, Meghan also spoke about the significance of her “Sussex” title while chatting with her friend, actress and producer Mindy Kaling.

The name, which was bestowed upon her by the late Queen Elizabeth II when she married Harry in 2018, corrected Kaling when she referred to her by her maiden name “Markle”, adding that she didn’t realise how strongly she’d feel about it until the couple welcomed their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“It’s so funny that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now,” Meghan told her.

“You have kids, and you go: ‘No, I share my name with my children’.

“I didn’t know how meaningful it would be, but it just means so much to go: ‘This is our family name, our little family name.”

With Love, Meghan is now streaming on Netflix.
