Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton at Wimbledon
SISTERS-in-law Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have stepped out together for the first time without their husbands.
MEGHAN Markle and Kate Middleton arrived in Wimbledon to cheer on Serena Williams in their first public engagement together without their husbands.
The sisters-in-law were seen waving and smiling at tennis fans as they descended on the SW19 club ahead of the Ladies’ Final.
The royal pair shook hands and chatted to a group of ball boys and girls, who lined up to greet the thrilled-looking youngsters.
They also met junior tennis players ahead of the Serena Williams vs Angelique Kerber clash.
Both the Duchesses exuded Wimbledon chic, with Meghan teaming a loose-fitted blue and white-striped shirt — possibly by Ralph Lauren — with wide-legged, high-waisted white trousers and a white straw boater she is believed to have worn at Wimbledon in 2016.
Just a few months after giving birth, svelte Kate sported a black and white patterned midi dress with ruffle detail, teamed with nude heels and drop earrings.
Serena has astonished even her most ardent fans with an incredible run at Wimbledon this summer — just ten months after undergoing an emergency caesarean when giving birth to her daughter.
Yet she was sensationally denied her eighth grass court crown in an incredible capitulation against German Angelique Kerber in the Ladies’ Final on Sunday morning.
A guest at Prince Harry and Meghan’s lavish nuptials in May, Serena and Meghan, also 36, have formed a tight bond over the past years.
Serena told reporters this week: “We always had a wonderful friendship.
“Every year for a couple years she comes out to Wimbledon, has supported me … Now she’s supporting me in a different role but our friendship is still exactly the same.
“We always have supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot. I look forward to it.”
Asked whether she sees herself as tennis royalty, the champion replied: “If there was a royalty, I probably would be.
“If there was a Wimbledon royalty, I would like to believe I would be Wimbledon royalty because I’ve done pretty well here in the past.”
Miss Williams said she has surprised herself by reaching the final nine months after the birth of her daughter Olympia.
The US superstar developed blood clots in the lungs and abdomen following emergency surgery, and still has to wear compression sleeves and tights on court.
“It’s been a crazy ten months. I was still pregnant at this time last year,” she said.
“That’s something I have to keep reminding myself. Also, you know, going out there, being a mum, is super cool.”
Fellow mum Kate, also 36, is officially still on maternity leave from royal duties after having her and Prince William’s third child, Prince Louis, in April this year.
