The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are under fire for their choice of car, as they are seen out in Beverly Hills.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are well known for pushing their environmentally friendly agenda.

But the former royals have been labelled hypocrites after they were photographed during an outing in Beverly Hills at the weekend, where they were seen driving a huge black Cadillac Escalade.

The Daily Mail reported the SUV, which reportedly costs from $A145,000, is one of the worst car models in terms of its reliance on fuel, with a six-litre engine.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who now call Los Angeles home, were seen out and about between appointments, as they wore face masks and summer clothing.

Meghan, 38, was pictured wearing a white dress and brimmed hat, while Harry, 35, was wearing a cap grey polo shirt and jeans, as they were spotted waiting for a valet to return their vehicle.

A week ago the couple appeared in a video to raise awareness amid the Black Lives Matter movement, encouraging the people of Britain to “promote prosperity, democracy and peace, amplify the voice of small states, and protect the environment”.

Critics took to social media to call out the couple for regularly urging others to look after the environment.

It’s certainly not the first time the pair have been branded as hypocrites for their eco-friendly stance.

Meghan and Harry dominated headlines in August last year when they took four private jet flights in just 11 days.

Sir Elton John revealed he paid for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to travel by private jet to visit his $27 million home in Nice, France.

The following month, when speaking at the launch of his sustainable travel initiative in Amsterdam, Harry said the use of private jets for his family was necessary to ensure their safety.

“I spend 99 per cent of my life travelling the world by commercial,” Harry told reporters at the time.

“Occasionally there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure my family are safe. It’s genuinely as simple as that.

“What it is about is balance. If I have to do that – it’s not a decision that I would want to take – but if I have to do that then I would ensure, as I have done previously and I will continue to make sure that I do, is to balance out that impact that I have. I have always offset my CO2,” he said.
