Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are on lockdown at their $23 million Canadian bolthole after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau closed the country’s border amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A source confirmed to the New York Post that the couple are together after flying back to Canada separately following their “farewell tour” of the UK.

Markle returned to Canada on the last commercial flight last Monday — just hours after attending the Commonwealth Service alongside the Queen and other senior royals.

Harry remained in the UK and held meetings at Buckingham Palace before returning to Canada at the end of last week to be reunited with his wife and baby son Archie.

Last week, sources said the pair were extremely worried for their close friend Sophie Trudeau, who is currently in isolation after contracting coronavirus in London. It’s unknown whether the former senior royals saw her while in the UK.

Mr Trudeau addressed Canadians outside his residence, where he is in self-isolation.

Meanwhile, Markle’s best friend Jessica Mulroney celebrated her 40th birthday in isolation on Saturday. It’s not known whether she has seen the Trudeaus, with whom she is also good friends.

Posting on Instagram, mum-of-three Mulroney said: “Quarantine birthday is the new rage and I’m not mad about it.”

Canada will be closing its borders to anyone who is not a citizen or a permanent resident, Mr Trudeau announced on Monday.

The new measure to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus in Canada does not include US citizens.

Airlines also have to stop travellers with coronavirus symptoms from boarding flights to Canada, Mr Trudeau said.

Only four Canadian airports – in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver – will be accepting international flights beginning on Wednesday.

“As the virus continues its spread, we’ve decided to take increasingly aggressive steps to keep you and your families safe,” Mr Trudeau said.

Canada had at least 324 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across all 10 provinces as of Tuesday. There are an additional 17 presumptive cases.

Three new deaths linked to the virus were reported, bringing the total fatalities in Canada to four, all in the province of British Columbia.
