Prince Harry and Meghan incorporated the Queen and Princess Diana in their baby’s name but it seems there was a nod to Meghan’s mum too.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to both the Queen and Princess Diana with their daughter’s name, but it appears there’s a secret nod to Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland too.

Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born at 11.40am on Friday in California, and the new bub shares Her Majesty’s family nickname.

The Queen was given her nickname, Lilibet, by her grandad King George V, who joked that she couldn’t pronounce her name Elizabeth as a child.

Prince Philip also called his wife the Queen the same sweet name for more than 70 years — while the middle name, Diana, is a tribute to Harry’s mum.

But journalist Afua Adom suggested that the baby’s name also has another hidden reference to Meghan’s own mum Doria, reports The Sun.

Speaking on this Good Morning Britain today, and joined by royal biographer Angela Levin, Afua said: “Lilibet is such a pretty name, it’s such a cute name. It is not just about being named after the Queen.

“It is a bit of a nod to Meghan’s mother Doria as well, because Meghan’s mother’s nickname for her is flower, hence why we’ve got Lili in there for Lilibet.”

Harry to take ‘several months off work’

It comes as a source close to Prince Harry and Meghan told the Evening Standard he would take a few months off work to spend with his growing family.

In the first words since Lili’s birth was announced yesterday, a source said big brother, Archie, was thrilled by his sister’s arrival.

“Archie and his parents are excited to welcome the new addition to their family. He’s very happy to have a little sister.”

Omid Scobie, a journalist favoured by Prince Harry and Meghan, said the royals will not be rushing back to work.

“We’re so used to seeing senior royals going back to work but Harry and Meghan are leading by example they offer up to 20 weeks parental leave at Archewell – it’ll be several months off work for the pair of them,” he said.

Asked if the tribute to Her Majesty could heal the wounds caused by the couple’s damaging Oprah interview, he said on Good Morning America: “I don’t know about an olive branch but it shows how close they’ve always been with the Queen”.
