Having barely crossed paths in years, the father and son will be in close proximity this week – but its highlighted just how bad things have become.

Prince Harry is travelling back home to the UK this week but is not expected to meet with his brother or father.

According to The Mail on Sunday, King Charles has “no time in the diary” to see his son when he returns to London for the annual WellChild Awards, a charity of which he has been patron for 15 years, on Thursday.

The publication also reports that the Duke of Sussex won’t be catching up with Prince William, as the pair haven’t spoken in months.

Following the awards appearance, Harry will head to Dusseldorf for the Invictus Games, where he’ll be joined by wife, Meghan Markle.

The couple has been largely estranged from his family since stepping down as working royals in early 2020 and publicly sharing their many complaints against them in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, their Netflix docu-series, and Harry’s memoir, Spare.

According to The Mail, Harry and Meghan – along with their two children, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2 – were not invited to join the rest of the royal family for their annual summer gathering at Balmoral this year.

The latest development follows reports last month that Charles and William were considering meeting for peace talks with Harry when he has a brief stopover in the UK, following the conclusion of the Games.

“King Charles is due to return to London from Balmoral in the middle of September which ties with the end of Harry’s Invictus Games trip to Dusseldorf,” a royal source told the UK’s OK! magazine in the initial reports.

“The King has a rescheduled official visit to France on September 20 so has a few days to spare in London to meet with his son. Staff are trying to finetune the details as we speak.”

However, the rumours were quickly quashed by the Daily Beast, with a source close to the Prince of Wales claiming he felt “utterly betrayed” by Harry.

“Charles won’t be seeing Harry and nor will William. No chance. He feels utterly betrayed by what Harry wrote about him in the book and said about him on Netflix,” the source told the publication.

While the relationship between William and Harry is reportedly at its lowest point yet, the King is understood to have a softer stance toward his youngest son, despite feeling deeply hurt.

“The King loves both his sons and his door is always open to Harry. But I don’t think they will be meeting on September 17,” the source told the Daily Beast.

“The King will be preparing for the state visit to France.”

Meanwhile, Harry’s long-awaited follow-up Netflix project, Heart of Invictus, premiered last week, in which he opened up again about the lack of support he felt while growing up in the royal family.

In the emotional series, which focuses on the lives of wounded veterans who compete in the Paralympic-style Invictus Games, he claimed he was left “lying in the foetal position” and “bouncing off walls” after leaving Afghanistan.

“I can only speak from my personal experience - my tour of Afghanistan in 2011 flying Apaches,” Harry said.

“Somewhere after that there was an unravelling and the trigger to me was returning from Afghanistan.

“But the stuff that was coming up was from 1997 - from the age of 12.

“Losing my mum at such a young age, the trauma that I had, I was never really aware of.”

Harry added that he tried to suppress his emotions “like most youngsters would have done” - but when it inevitably came “fizzing out” he was left “bouncing off the walls.”

“I was thinking what is going on here - now I’m feeling everything as opposed to being numb,” he explained.

“The biggest struggle for me was that no one around me could really help.

“I didn’t have that support structure that network or that expert advice to identify what was actually going on with me.

“Unfortunately like most of us, the first time you really consider therapy is when you’re lying on the floor in the foetal position probably wishing that you dealt with some of this stuff previously.”
