King Charles calls ‘urgent’ meeting with Prince William and Kate Middleton

Amid backlash over William’s decision not to attend the World Cup final in Sydney, details of an emergency royal summit have been revealed.

King Charles calls urgent ‘strategy’ summit with Prince and Princess of Wales

King Charles has reportedly called an urgent meeting with Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, in order to discuss the monarchy’s future and lay out a strategy for the coming year.

According to the UK’s Mirror, the King wants to use the couple’s “star quality” to unite the Commonwealth and has called them to Balmoral for a summit, which will be held on Monday.

“He sees it as his utmost duty to fulfil the sincere wish of his late mother,” a palace source told the publication.

“One of his central roles must be to ensure not only the survival but the robustness of the Commonwealth.”

The source added that the King will place William and Kate “at the heart of cementing their own future and that of the monarchy at large.”

The meeting was revealed as Football Association president William faced heavy backlash over his decision not to fly to Australia to support the English women’s team in the World Cup finals tonight and is understood to have been a potential factor.

Reports have also cited the cost of the trip and carbon footprint as reasons for why it wasn’t feasible.

Amid growing criticism, including from high-profile figures such as Piers Morgan, William issued an apology to the Lionesses team on Saturday and wished them luck in their match against Spain.

The Lionesses beat Australia 3-1 in the semi-finals last week to book their place in their first ever World Cup final.

“Lionesses, I want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow,” William told them in a social media video message, appearing alongside his eight-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte.

“We’re sorry we can’t be there in person but we’re so proud of everything you have achieved and the millions you’ve inspired here and around the world. So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”

A smiling Charlotte then added: “Good luck, Lionesses!”
