The Princess of Wales was grilled by schoolkids during an impromptu appearance at a high-profile London event – and she got very candid.

Kate Middleton has revealed the royal rule she’s forced to stick to while making a surprise visit to the Chelsea Flower Show in London.

During the inaugural Children’s Picnic, she reportedly had to politely decline when one of the young students asked for her signature.

“My name’s Catherine. I’m not allowed to write my signature, it’s just one of those rules,” she was overheard saying.

However, she added: “I can’t write my name, but I can draw.”

The Princess of Wales, 41, wore a silk ME + EM shirt dress, paired with Castaner Carina espadrille wedges and Zoraida earrings for the royal outing.

During the event, Kate also candidly answered a series of the students’ questions, including what it’s like being a member of the royal family.

“You have to work hard, but you know the best thing about it is meeting kiddies like you,” she told them.

“They help support all the different people in the country, showcase all the amazing work being done and look after everyone.”

Kate laughed when asked whether she “makes the law”, responding that “the Prime Minister makes the laws”.

The Princess has attended the world-famous horticultural event many times in the past, but this marked her first time since 2019.

Kate’s candid chat with the schoolkids comes just a couple of weeks after she let slip her adorable nickname for her youngest son, five-year-old Prince Louis.

The Prince and Princess of Wales took all three of their children – which also included Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 8 – to a local Scouts group on the coronation weekend as part of the nationwide volunteer day.

While the family was roasting marshmallows over a fire, Kate uttered the sweet moniker, telling him: “Pop that on the fire, Lou-Bugs.”
