Kate Middleton’s message to George, Charlotte and Louis

The Princess told George, Charlotte and Louis “I’m going to be OK” after waiting for right time to tell them about her cancer diagnosis.

The Princess of Wales told her children George, Charlotte and Louis “I’m going to be OK” after waiting for the right time to reveal her cancer diagnosis.

The mum-of-three, 42, released a touching video statement to reveal she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing “preventative chemotherapy”.

In the video message, Kate Middleton said the news had come as a “huge shock” to herself, her husband Prince William and to their three young children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

Now, Kate has stressed that she is not sharing the information because of speculation, but chose to do so because it was the “right time” for her kids.

“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family but I have had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me for which I am so grateful,” she said in her video message.

“Most importantly it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

Kate added: “As I have said to them. I am well and I’m getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal in my mind body and spirit.”

She thanked her husband William for being by her side in the video – which was filmed at Windsor on Wednesday.

Sitting on a bench as she delivered her video statement, the Princess said: “This of course came as a huge shock. William and I have been doing everything I can to process this privately for the sake of our young family.

“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too.”

The first-in-line to the throne recently cancelled attending an event due to a “personal matter” with it understood Kate’s diagnosis was the reason behind the last minute cancellation.

It is understood she is hoping to make a full recovery and plans to return to engagements when she is ready.

The shock discovery was made after Kate underwent abdominal surgery at the London Clinic back in January.

Kate was last seen on public duty on Christmas Day and has been unable to carry out official engagements since the surgery.

Today, the 42-year-old released a personal video statement, saying there had initially been no signs of cancer following the successful surgery but a post-op test detected the disease.

The Princess of Wales was then advised to undergo preventative chemotherapy and is in the early stages of treatment.

In the rest of her statement, Kate touched on how she was undergoing chemotherapy.

She said: “I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you personally for all the understanding whilst I’ve been recovering from surgery.

“In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time it was thought my condition was non cancerous – the surgery was successful.

“However tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“As you can imagine this has taken time. It has taken time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.

“As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
