US TV personality Meghan McCain has blasted Prince Harry over his keynote speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

The royal and his wife Meghan Markle were in New York, where Harry commemorated International Nelson Mandela Day.

In his speech, the British native spoke about the dangers of climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, “weaponising lies and disinformation”, the war in Ukraine and abortion laws in the US.

“This has been a painful year in a painful decade,” he said.

“We’re living through a pandemic that continues to ravage communities in every corner of the globe.

“Climate change wreaking havoc on our planet, with the most vulnerable suffering most of all; the few, weaponising lies and disinformation at the expense of the many.

“From the horrific war in Ukraine to the rolling back of constitutional rights here in the United States.

“We are witnessing a global assault on democracy and freedom – the cause of Mandela’s life.”

Ms McCain, a Daily Mail columnist who co-hosted The View until last year (and is also the daughter of former senator and presidential candidate John McCain), appeared on GB News’ Dan Wootton Tonight, available to stream on Flash, where she shared her reaction to Prince Harry’s address.

“I was actually just really shocked at the audacity of Prince Harry,” she said on the program.

“He is a guest in this country. He is someone that has not been universally beloved. He is not universally liked. He is very controversial.

“He has a very basic misunderstanding of democracy and democracy in America.

“He’s not a politician … no one cares what he has to say … I found it really offensive.”

The former View co-host then took aim at Meghan, saying the idea of her running for US President would be “absolutely hilarious” and suggested the couple should leave the US.

“I think they should leave if they hate it here so much. He hasn’t been here that long,” she said.

“You should find a country that is more fitting to your needs.

“This is the second time he’s trashed the constitution publicly. He did it on a podcast last year.

“I just don’t really understand if you’re a guest in a country seeking political asylum from your horrible home country, why you would come here and trash our freedoms that we all hold so dear here?”

Since his speech, Harry has received a negative reception.

According to royal commentator Angela Levin, Americans are “furious” with the Duke of Sussex.

“How dare an English Prince with a title tell them what to do,” she told GB News.

“There’s lots of comments today about how they’re absolutely furious with him.

“He talks about climate change and the problem it is and how it eats him up and he was going home in a private plane – there’s a sort of nonsensical hypocrisy there.

“He’s very cross at the about the vote against abortion – well, that’s not his business is it?

“I think it took very much away from the focus on Mandela.”
