Harry, Meghan’s ‘self-obsession’ exposed amid explosive ‘racist royal’ claim

The accidental naming of two “racist royals” in an explosive new book has exposed an unflattering truth Harry and Meghan have been trying to hide.

Nightmare unfolds for Meghan and Harry

There are currently two potential flashpoints for World War III: A Cold War-esque conflict that is running red hot between Russia and Ukraine and an existential battle for survival in the Holy Lands between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

On top of this is a cost-of-living crisis that is crippling almost all Western nations — not least of all Australia — and a crisis that has always been eternal in the developing world.

Meanwhile, somewhere both above and between all that is the great seismic wrestle between China and America to determine which will dominate the next century.

To put it in somewhat lofty and apocalyptic terms, we are in the middle of a great global intersection. A point where the world will either go one way or the other, and the other looks very perilous in every direction: Holy war, ideological war, nationalist war, trade war and — if any of these escalate — global war.

And so it is of great relief to learn that the biggest question engulfing the upper echelons of society in California and England is which royal may or may not have asked what Harry and Meghan’s baby might look like.

You honestly could not make this stuff up — although of course there are some who are suggesting that author Omid Scobie has done precisely that.

Either way, it hardly matters. The point is there is something glorious about Harry and Meghan’s almost supernatural capacity for self-obsession, even in the most acute planetary crisis. It is like a super power.

Of course we all remember the infamous Oprah interview in which Harry and Megs revealed someone in the royal family was apparently racist towards their unborn child, although the culprit was unnamed and their comments were unsaid.

That’s a lot of uns.

But now, this unfortunate story has been once more unleashed thanks to fearless royal biographer Omid Scobie, and the anonymous royal who uttered such unspeakably unknown comments has been unwittingly unmasked by his Dutch publishers.

Apparently — and again, this is too good to print except that it was — the Dutch translators miraculously learned the identity of the royal as well as a second family member supposedly dragged into it and managed to insert these revelations into Scobie’s pristine manuscript.

We have of course all heard the phrase “lost in translation” but this is surely the first time such a bounty has been found in translation.

But again, who the royal was or whether they said whatever it was they did or didn’t say almost doesn’t matter. The most amazing thing about this whole story is that it is a story at all.

Now don’t get me wrong: I love celebrity gossip. And, like millions of other people around the world, I will dive into on any story with Harry and Meghan in it like an eaglehawk on a fieldmouse.

Because what makes Meg and H so uniquely placed in the pantheon is their capacity to conjure great injury from things so microscopically tiny that it is questionable whether they exist at all.

Perhaps perfectly, the argument over whether the names of the royals even existed in the manuscript is the perfect metaphor for Harry and Meghan’s laundry list of grievances: Were any of them ever real in the first place?

Indeed, so spectral and fleeting are the woes of this eye-wateringly overprivileged couple — who appear to be between jobs at the moment because no one can find a use for them — that they have had to reheat this latest charge like a TV dinner.

Scobie — the Sussexes’ previous hagiographer and widely viewed as their unofficial mouthpiece — even admitted as much when seeking to justify why he thought the alleged incident worth of inclusion in his latest book Endgame, which is supposedly about the downfall of the royal family.

The accidental inclusion of naming the alleged ‘racist royals’ appeared in Omid Scobie’s book Endgame.

Apparently he “wanted to get to the bottom of” this mystery after it “disappeared out of sight” following the Oprah interview — an interesting description of the global furore that followed.

But Scobie was apparently disappointed that Harry and Meghan didn’t bring it up again in their Netflix series or his memoir and so figured that he was the man for the job.

It really is outstanding stuff: A scandal based on something so infinitesimally small and so utterly cringe-worthy that even Harry and Meghan have publicly dropped it like a hot potato, but Scobie would have us believe that completely independently and with no input from the Duke and Duchess of Montecito he decided the truth must be unearthed to explain the collapse of the British monarchy.

One can only guess at his thoughts on the situation in Gaza or the war in Ukraine.

Because that is what is so truly magical about all of this is how it exposes with such beautiful luminescence the obsessions of this new generation of hopelessly overprivileged progressives.

Of course the rest of the world doesn’t stop just because there is a war somewhere — the world would hardly move if it did — and of course there should always be a place for colour and fluff and debate and jokes no matter what is happening in the world.

But there is simply no greater exposure of the utter wankery of trendy obsessions like “unconscious bias” than to have such an earnest grievance about some toff’s passing comment thrust to the centre of international news.

This is at the same time as women and children and babies have been murdered and abducted and blown to bits in Israel and Gaza, a madman in Russia is attempting to wipe out Ukraine, a dictator is tightening his grip on the planet’s biggest country and the only nation strong enough to stop it is being fought over by two geriatric fools.

And that might just be Harry and Meghan’s only true gift to the world.
