Harry and Meghan’s son Archie’s godmother revealed: reports
It’s been a closely-guarded secret for months, but baby Archie’s godmother has reportedly been unmasked — and she’s managed to keep an incredibly low profile.
The godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby son has reportedly been revealed — and chances are, you’ve never heard of her.
That’s because the Duchess of Sussex has kept this particular friendship a closely-guarded secret.
According to royal correspondent Katie Nicholl, Isabel May was introduced to Meghan by mutual friend and Soho House director Markus Anderson, and quickly became one of her “closest and dearest friends” as she navigated the transition from Los Angeles to the British royal family.
Ms May is a PR specialist who used to work as the head of communications for Burberry and is currently employed as chief marketing director for David Beckham’s company, DB Ventures.
“Izzy is one of Meghan’s closest and dearest friends and she values her friendship so very much,” a source told the Mail on Sunday. “She helped Meghan adjust to life in London when she moved here, and Meghan relied on her a lot. They totally support each other and, like any other female friends, enjoy social activities together.”
Nicholl says she spotted Ms May at the launch of Meghan’s charity clothing line, Smart Works, earlier this month.
“I was there at the launch and spotted in the audience Isabel May,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Who is in fact Archie’s godmother, although that’s been kept very, very quiet.
“She’s a great friend of the Duchess’ and of course she would have known all about this launch.”
Speculation as to the identities of Archie’s godparents reached fever pitch around the time of his christening in early July, but Harry and Meghan remained tight-lipped about their decision.
However, in the days following, it was revealed that the Duke of Sussex’s childhood friend Charlie van Straubanzee was chosen as the four-month-old’s godfather.
