Harry and Meghan ‘rushed’ out of Queen’s Jubilee event
It’s been revealed the couple were in such a hurry to get back to their UK home during the Platinum Jubilee, they missed a key part of the celebrations.
Prince Harry and Meghan were in such a rush to get away from the first day of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations they missed the Red Arrows fly-past over Buckingham Palace, it has been claimed.
The couple — on a first joint visit to the UK after quitting as frontline royals — “rushed back” to Frogmore Cottage, their Windsor home, after the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
It came after the Queen reportedly told Harry and Meghan she would not pose for a picture with their daughter Lilibet as Her Majesty had a bloodshot eye.
Her senior aides are understood to have voiced fears that a picture could be shared in the US, where Harry, 37, and Meghan, 40, have a multimillion-dollar contract with Netflix.
It was also reported in the UK Telegraph the couple visited the Queen as a family the day before Trooping the Colour.
It was previously thought the meeting took place afterwards.
It’s also claimed they declined invites to the Party at the Palace and the Platinum Pageant.
A source said: “Harry and Meghan were kept at arm’s length during the whole weekend — and they did not make much effort to help thaw relations either.”
However, the couple did enjoy at least some off-duty time with members of Harry’s family. Zara and Mike Tindall’s three children, Mia, 8, Lena, 3, and Lucas, 1, along with Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s daughters, Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10, were among the guests at Lilibet’s low-key first birthday party, held at Frogmore Cottage during Harry and Meghan’s trip to the UK.
It’s understood the Sussexes invited Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children to the party as an olive branch — but the family did not attend.
Page Six reported in June that amid the brothers’ ongoing fractious relationship, Harry and Meghan asked the Cambridges to join them for the celebrations.
But the Cambridges and two of their three children, Prince George, 8, and Princess Charlotte, 7, were instead in Wales for the day taking part in Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
In fact, the brothers and their families didn’t spend any solo time together during the Sussex’s UK trip, according to multiple reports.
One UK-based royal insider told Page Six: “Things are still fraught — William is still wary of spending any time alone with Harry as you never quite know what may be reported back afterwards.”
