Harry and Meghan are so in love it is giving everyone the ick

There’s a very good reason why you find Prince Harry and Meghan Markle so annoying – and it isn’t your fault.

'They're phoney': Prince Harry and Meghan slammed over 'ludicrous' Netflix claims

It is so hard to like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry because they are so sickeningly in love that it is annoying. Actually, it is straight-up giving me the ick.

In fairness to them, it isn’t their fault. Desperately in love, couples are just usually very obnoxious and also boring. For instance Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker constantly licking each other has become uninteresting, but when she was very unhappily with her ex-boyfriend Scott Disick that was must-watch reality television.

I don’t make the rules but it is no secret in love couples are boring. I’ve sat across from enough newly loved up mates and watched them handfeed each other or laugh at each other’s unfunny jokes to know that my dislike of Harry and Meghan isn’t personal.

It is just a bad time being around insanely in love couples. Give them another few years and I reckon they’ll become interesting again, maybe Meghan will have a wine and make fun of Harry’s dramatic dating history.

No one wants to get stuck with the loved up couple at the dinner party. Everyone wants the hot-mess single person retelling stories of failed Tinder dates or how she got ghosted by a guy who said he was lightly into ice.

The biggest problem with Meghan and Harry are so in love that they think their love is fascinating.

Happy, healthy relationships are very dull and sadly they make the people in them tell very cringe antidotes. Sorry, but your story about that cute thing your boyfriend did is 99 per cent of the time tedious.

For instance, Meghan’s so under the love spell that she told a journalist at The Cutthat a tree in her backyard reminds her of her and Harry. Yes, she’s so in lust she’s become a woman that, without any irony, speaks in metaphors.

She said: “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees. See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’ And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, Momma. Hi, Papa.”

Seriously, that is what she said, and I honestly believe she said it not expecting to be mocked! Further proof that love makes you crazy.

The fact the whole Netflix series is based around their love story doesn’t help. Both of them wax lyrical about meeting over Instagram. Yes, the place people go to like selfies and stalk their exes.

In the Netflix series Harry said: “Meghan and I met over Instagram. I was scrolling through my feed, and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, it was like a Snapchat.”

Meghan added, “That whole thing, the dog ears. That’s what he saw of me.”

They both tell this story laughing and smiling like it is a super exciting and charming story despite the fact it is very dull and not much happens.

Basically, Harry thought Meghan was hot and messaged her. That is the origins of their great love story and they tell it with the enthusiasm you’d reserve for the retelling of how Noah met Allie in The Notebook. Remember, he chased her onto a Ferris wheel? He didn’t just message her via Instagram.

They even reveal that at their secret engagement party they wore matching penguin outfits. I mean sweet, yes, but also get me a bucket. As far as I’m concerned matching is only for twins in television shows under the age of 12.

None of this is a crime but it doesn’t set them up to be liked. If Harry and Meghan wanted to beloved, Meghan should complain about how Harry grew up as a Prince and is terrible at doing his own laundry and Harry should mention that he finds Meghan’s old lifestyle website completely wanky. See? Then we’d like them again, because they’d feel relatable, self-aware and a bit fun.

There’s a reason all romantic comedies end once the couple get together. Watching two people moon over each other is boring, cringe and uninteresting. We are finding it hard to connect with Meghan and Harry because it is hard to love people that are so obsessed with each other they lack any self-awareness.
