Prince Philip 'voluntarily' gives up driving licence after car crash

The Queen’s cousin Prince Edward has been involved in a car crash with a 21-year-old student, only months after Prince Philip made headlines for rolling his landrover.

The Duke of Kent, 83, was reportedly driving his Jaguar when it’s alleged he crashed into Olivia Fellows’ Mini near Brighton.

Ms Fellows told local reporters she was “badly shaken” by the crash, which occurred about 8.30pm local time on June 2.

The mini she was driving was written off.

Police are now investigating the cause.

The neuroscience student said she had not heard from the Duke or anyone from the royal camp after the crash.
Ms Fellows claims she was driving about 90kph when the Jaguar pulled out in front of her.

“He shot across the road. But it was so close that if I hadn’t emergency braked I would have gone straight into the middle of his car,” she told Mail Online.

“As I put on the brakes, my car span towards the central reservation and smashed into it. I clipped the curb and buckled the wheel arch of my car.

“The airbags went off and there was smoke coming from the engine.”

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace confirmed a royal car was ‘indirectly’ involved in the collision in Sussex.

“All the relevant details have been passed to the police,” the palace confirmed.

Earlier this year the Queen’s husband Prince Philip was involved in a crash while driving his Land Rover.

The vehicle flipped after it was hit by another car in January.

The Duke of Edinburgh wasn’t hurt but he did need to be rescued by a passing motorist.

Philip was criticised his delay in contacting the other people involved in that crash.

He was also spotted driving without his seat belt buckled afterwards.

Philip later apologised and surrendered his licence.
