Diana’s brother to leave estate to son instead of daughter Lady Kitty Spencer

Princess Diana’s brother has revealed his preference for an archaic tradition that would cut his eldest daughter out of his estate.

Princess Diana’s younger brother Earl Spencer has revealed he plans to leave the Spencer family estate to his son despite having an older daughter.

William and Harry’s uncle admits that he wishes to leave Althorp estate to his son Viscount Louis Spencer, 25, instead of his eldest child Lady Kitty, 28, The Sun reports.

In doing so the father-of-seven will be sticking to the archaic tradition of male primogeniture where the eldest son inherits property, titles and fortunes.

Despite the practice being considered outdated and abandoned by the royal family, Earl Spencer sees no fault in it.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, he said: “Is it any fairer that the eldest child gets it instead of the eldest male? Whatever you say is a selection.”

Diana’s brother may be of this thinking because he inherited the estate over his elder sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Jane Fellowes, Baroness Fellowes and Princess Diana.

Primogeniture also secured his dad’s peerage until the House of Lords Act 1999 excluded the majority of hereditary peers.

The Althorp Estate can be found in the district of Daventry in Northamptonshire.

Its name comes from the parish of Althorp, which makes up the 5261-hectare estate, 10km by road from the town of Northampton.

The Spencers have owned the Althorp Estate for more than 500 years, with Diana calling the estate home before her marriage to Prince Charles.

The estate includes a Grade I listed stately home, along with 50 square kilometres of woodland, cottages and farms in the surrounding area.

Princess Diana’s grave is located on an island in the middle of an ornamental lake on the estate, which was chosen to defend the late princess’s remains from ghouls.

A memorial for visitors can be found across from the lake, where wellwishers can leave flowers as a tribute to the much-loved princess.

The home recently became available for overnight hire, according to the Mirror, but guests can expect to fork out $45,000 a night to stay on the estate.

It is also available to rent for a week, with a five-course dinner priced at more than $500 a head, breakfast is $900 and you have to fork out $18,000 to have it served to you in the picture gallery.

Full overnight hire for a party of 50 is $135,000, meaning that drama student Louis will inherit a nice little earner.
