David Beckham joins queue to see Queen

The mega star, 47, was seen wiping away a tear as he entered Westminster Hall to view Her Majesty’s coffin as she lies in state.

David Beckham spent 13 hours queuing to see the Queen as she lies in state.

The soccer legend, 47, wiped away a tear as he entered Westminster Hall to view Her Majesty’s coffin.

The former England captain joined the line to pay his respects at 1.45am (10.45am AEST) on Friday, and kept a low profile in a flat cap.

It didn’t take long for mourners to realise who he was and ask the star for a selfie.

When he entered the hall, he bowed his head and dried his eyes.

Beckham later explained that his grandparents brought him up as a royalist.

“So this day was always going to be difficult, and it’s difficult for the nation, it’s difficult for everyone around the world, because I think everyone is feeling it, and our thoughts are with the family and obviously with everybody here today,” Beckham told Sky News.

“Because it’s special to be here, to celebrate, and to hear the different stories that people have to say.”

He spoke of how proud he was to have met the Queen as England captain.
“The most special moment for me was to receive my OBE. I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife there as well,” the father-of-four said.

“To step up, to get my honour, but then also Her Majesty, to ask questions, to talk, I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life, to be around Her Majesty.

“Because we can all see with the love that has been shown, how special she is and how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.

“It’s a sad day, but it’s a day for us to remember the incredible legacy that she’s left.”

Beckham waited several hours to see the Queen lying in state

The lines were so long at one point that the government had to step in and stop people from joining the queue, which snakes back miles across London.

The massed crowds eventually spotted Beckham, who respectfully took photos with fans before rejoining the queue.

Paying tribute to the late monarch last week, Beckham said: “I’m truly saddened by the death of Her Majesty, The Queen.

“What an outpouring of love and respect we saw for the Platinum Jubilee for her life of service.

“How devastated we all feel today shows what she has meant to people in this country and around the world.

“How much she inspired us with her leadership. How she comforted us when times were tough.

“Until her last days she served her country with dignity and grace. This year she would have known how loved she was. My thoughts and prayers are with our Royal Family.”
