Prince Charles has been making regular morning visits to the Queen at Balmoral as she continues to suffer mobility problems.

They are a sign of the Prince of Wales is concerned for his mother as unplanned visits between households on the estate are highly unusual, royal experts say.

The Sun revealed yesterday how the 96-year-old monarch is not expected to travel the 1600km round-trip from Balmoral to appoint a new Prime Minister next month.

She has battled for almost a year with mobility problems and closest advisers are worried about her comfort on the 48-hour trip when the incoming PM can readily travel to Scotland, The Sun reports.

The traditional public welcoming party for the Queen when she arrived at Balmoral was also moved behind closed doors.

She has not been seen at church on Sundays since she arrived but it is thought she plans to attend the annual Braemar games next weekend.

Prince Andrew, 62, is staying at the main house, having moved in the day after the Queen arrived this month.

They are said to be locked in intense talks over his future.

Meanwhile, Charles, 73, has been using gaps in his schedule to spend time with her.

Ingrid Seward, of Majesty Magazine, said: “It’s highly unusual for Prince Charles to make these kinds of impromptu visits to see his mother.

“But Charles is a very thoughtful person — and who else can she rely on now Prince Philip has gone?

“Everyone thinks they normally see each other all the time, but they don’t.
