Rob Mills has revealed the heartache he went through as a consequence of coronavirus border restrictions.

After he was asked about how he was dealing with his mental health during COVID, he candidly responded, admitting that he could hardly get himself out of bed most days.

“I think I was pretty upbeat until late June. I lost a few friends to cancer and couldn’t get to their funerals, had a run in with NSW COVID agents up in NSW, was told I couldn’t attend a funeral even though I tested negative,” he said.

“Anyway it was a pretty tough time,” he continued. “That drive home was pretty sad,” Rob said, saying that he ended up watching the funeral live. “I got pretty sad for a bit and I found myself not being able to get out of bed.”

Being in Melbourne, lockdown has been tough on him and girlfriend Georgie Tunny who shared the experience together.

Mills explained how when the restrictions eased, he was able to go out with friends and have people around at his place, but it wasn’t all great.

“When COVID stopped for a bit we had a few people over when we were allowed to, they weren’t crazy big nights, but I pushed some alcohol into my system that I hadn’t done in a long time.”

“Then I realised ‘I don’t really need this it is not good for me, alcohol is a depressant, probably don’t need this right now.’”

It isn’t the first time the actor has spoken about his struggles this year.

Previously speaking to the Daily Mail, he admitted, “I was just going through the motions and found myself caught up in a routine of unhealthy habits of drinking more, scrolling aimlessly on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and obsessing over the solutions to COVID-19.

“None of these things were good for me. They made me feel increasingly angry at the world. A lot of days, I just didn’t want to get out of bed. I couldn’t see the point.”

Thankfully, Mills found a way out of it with exercise, running half a marathon in July, reading books again, and getting back into music.

He believes this year has been all about “shining a light on yoursef, this year has been all about introspection to think ‘What do I want to do with my life?’”
