THE king of love ballads, Richard Marx, and his Dirty Dancing star wife, Cynthia Rhodes, are splitting after 25 years of marriage and three children.
Marx, 50, the singer of 80s and 90s hits like Right Here Waiting, Should’ve Known Better and Hazard, told Katie Couric that he was enjoying life as a single man again.
“It’s all brand new to me, so I’m just having fun,” he said. “You hit 50 and go, what do I want to do differently?” he explained. “I want to do as much differently as possible.”
Marx met Rhodes, 57, back in 1983 when she played John Travolta’s love interest in the film Staying Alive, a film for which Marx helped out on the soundtrack.
Rhodes is however best known for her role as dance instructor Penny Johnson in Dirty Dancing alongside Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.
Rhodes and Marx married in 1989 after four years of dating.
They have three sons, Brandon, 23, Lucas, 21, and Jesse, 20.
